OK... since I have been accused of being a Darwin Award Candidate on occasion I decided I'd go with it.
For those of you who have been living under a rock the last few years let me explain. A Darwin award is given to somone that does something so dumb they usually end up dead. Hopefully they have not had time to breed and the humen genetic pool is stronger with them no longer a part of it. Hence the Darwin thing.
So... post the dumbest thing you have either done or actually witnessed in Eve.
Theres only one rule.. it has to have happened to you or you have to have actually witnessed the deed. None of this I heard of a guy stuff...

This is more fun than I hoped. Maybe I have to figure out a prize and a way to pick a winner.

I'll start....
Believe it or not I have never lost a ship or gotten killed. (did I just paint a big target on my back?).Anyway...
I was doing a trade run once. Had my route all figured out and all. I bought the goods (cattle i think it was). Traveled about 10 jumps to where I needed to sell them. Got there, opened my cargo hold to find it was empty. I left the stuff back in the hanger where I bought it.

On my first day in eve i thought trading would be a good way to make money.
i bought anitbiotics for 145 per item
45 jumps later, I sold antibiotics for 135 per item.
I haven't traded since.

Heh, the guys will kill me for telling this story, but what the hell.
The Gang's first attempt at piracy took place in Isikano way back when. We were all in frigates except for a new blackbird. We figure sitting in front of a gate is a little too obvious, so we'll jump through the gate and guard the other side.
After 30 minutes of not being able to lock anything down we gave up in disgust and hunted people in the asteroid belts around Gerper who were ninja mining Bistot.

After a fascinating evening playing tag with Tank, i decided to end my involvement by finally catching up to him, locking on, and opening fire with a frustrated volley of missiles - having misread a post about stations, sentries, and lowsec space, i completely ignored the fact that he was approaching a station to dock.
Of course the splash from the missiles his the station.
Of course the sentries annihilated me in nothing flat.
I saved the email that informed me that Tank CEO and the Minmatar Fleet jointly cooperated in my destruction. Never trust the Gummint.

Almost won a Darwin Award, well maybe I did for getting a corpmate killed.
We were screwing around in a belt while others mined, I was sending my drones to attack a corp member, and we both kinda beat the crap out of each other.
Well, at that moment, in comes PC pirates (orion syndicate) Now my drones are a million miles away, and everyone is caught with their panties down. I was the only guy loaded for combat, and I engaged all 3. I was all laddy dah about it, told the guys to get out while I held em off for 30 seconds or so. During that whole team they beat me down to 30% shields. I then got out of there. My poor corp mate didn't however. Would have been zero casualties if we weren't screwing around, oh well, lesson learned.

Worst mistake I made was not using this post to flame Sunda.
Second worst was just a close call. After spending some time on the forums telling people that m0o weren't a problem if you were careful and paid attention, etc. I was out journeying to *somewhere*, and it was about 30 jumps, and I did just about everything wrong.
I didn't check the route for 'mentioned' systems, I didn't check the kills map, I didn't check local, and I was either posting, or chatting ingame when I thought to check my progress, and just as I heard 'autopilot aproaching stargate' I saw, in big letters 'Passari'. At this point I totally freaked out, probably clicked on the autopilot about 8 times to turn it off/on/off/on/etc. It was the gate to Mara, which at the time was the only significant death-zone in the game. And a very deadly one, at that.
Would have been so horrifically ironic, I wouldn't have posted on the forums for a month, to keep a low-pro.
I hope they let the pirates back...

My corpmate Zitch and I were doing a little mining in an easy .6 system in lonetrek. Since we were both in mining cruisers we had all mining lasers and no guns. To guard us, zitch had a few light 'infiltrator' drones out.
Now, for those who have never hunted Gurristas, "Gurristas Infiltrators" are a low level Gurrista pirate.
Anyway, along comes a newbie named Thundis in a Merlin. Thundis immediately locks on to the infiltrator drones and starts blasting.
In seconds an entire concord police group, battleship included, was putting foot to Thundis' ass. Needless to say he didn't last very long.
Over the course of six emails I tried to explain that the Infiltrator drones were not "gurristas infiltrator" pirates, but Thundis was a complete idiot and insisted he had attacked real NPC pirates.

LOL Stampede I will go you one better, I was in a field hunting and using Infiltrators drones to back me up. I got confused and targeted 1 of my own drones and in the heat of them moment blew it away. Right about then Concord warps in and smokes my azz. After I collected my insurance I scrapped the Infiltrators and got some Hobgoblins, no more possible confusion.

How about this:
I was solo mining in .4 space with 2 guns and 2 mining lasers and 4 mining drones. I had just picked up my first smart-bomb to try to take out incoming missiles. When the NPC pirates showed up I started targeting them and activated the smart-bomb on auto repeat. By the time it was all over, I had been hit by most of the incoming missiles, the pirates were all dead, and the smart-bomb had killed all of my drones.

I was getting paid to gaurd some miners in a med sec system. It sbeen dead quite only one pirate spawn and im getting a bit edgy. All of a sudden one of the miners shouts "Pirates!" I freak out my screens full of chat windows im looking around everwhere....
Then suddenly I see the pirate right On one of the Miners! **** I lock on and open fire.... on a Concord scout drone :( Suddenly about 6 orange warnings pop up from the fricking concord battle fleet that happens to be near by. I run for the gate - more concord. I run for a station start to dock and.... another 6 concord ships fry my ass in about 10 seconds :(
My one and only death. Darwinian for sure I know Ive evolved.

There was about 6 of us mining kernite in .4 all huddled together. Only two of us had cruisers at the time.
I was on my way to picking up some mob loot when all of a sudden my indy was thrown against a nearby asteroid and all the frigates in the group lost shields and some of their armor.
Just as one of the frigates yelled INC!!! One of our new cruiser pilots said I destroyed the incoming missles with my new smartbomb I just trained for.
12 mining drones, about 5k kernite and some time spent repairing armor were the only casualties :) The clincher however was afterwards he said what are you guys doing so close to me? We all had a good laugh.

Spent 30 minutes haggling over prices for a Heavy Modulated Beam in local channel. Got a good price, fired up the map and asked where he was, only to find he was 79 jumps away from me..=(

We had Bringoutyerdead pay a visit to Jakanerva very early in the morning. The few of us that happen to be online at the time gathered at the gate out of Jakanerva and gathered around as he self destructed his ibis for us. I though that was pretty funny since it was the first time I had ever seen someone self destruct. About a minute later you hear this scream and see his pod explode. I was totaly caught off guard because I had no clue that he was going to pod himself as well, and I almost fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard. I was gasping for air and crying all at the same time.
We later brought the subject up over TS a day or so later and we all couldn't stop laughing. By far that is the most interesting thing I've ever seen in EVE.
Of course if he had podded himself infront of us today Concord would probably swoop in and blow us up. lol

We had a guy Arathmon, in a Thorax, scouting out a system called serpentis prime. He jumps in docks at a station and then undocks. Once he undocks a guy called Singuliar (in an Osprey) locks on and fires at him. He has a corpmate nearby who does the same. Arathmon doesn't take kindly so he returns fire. Obviously a in a Thorax v 2 osprey battle the Thorax wins and they warp away trailing smoke.
After getting Singulair tell me to "&!$% Off" we eventually contact another member of their corp and decide that we will let it drop with a public apology (note that Singulair is the CEO of this corp, so if the best he has is an osprey they're screwed). This Singulair does after some pushing and we let the matter drop.
Bout 2 hours later he pops in the chat room we gave him and tells us that "I listened to my advisers too much" "We will pod you guys whenever we see you" and "We know you have a battleship (we did not) and we will have THREE soon! (they didn't/couldn't)." Needless 2 say we all think he is an idiot but we gear up for war.
Next morning i get a message from him. Apparently he was at a Bachelors Party and was dead drunk at the time. Apparently getting drunk is a habit of his since his other numerous explots include "Getting podded by a Stargate" but i'll let Setec tell that one :)

Just last night. We're playing with pirate cruisers. A buddy decides he wants to zip around in his rifter. I've got three hammerheads out and my trusty new prototype webifier.
"Hey care if I web you? I want to see how slow this thing will make a rifter go. How fast are you right now?
"509, yeah go ahead"
I lock on and hit the webifier. One problem, since it is now an offensive action off go the three hammerheads! They wouldn't recall and circle...
He warped out with his shield beat down some. But I did find out I slowed him down to under 100 m/s.
Life isn't fair and neither is Eve. Get over it. |

Okay here is the winner. In beta I was experimenting with the, then, new feature of the right click reload while in space. As it did not work, I figured that perhaps you needed to lock onto something to ensure that it worked. Well, the only thing that was in range was a station. After I locked and tried to load a new ammo by right clicking, my guns began to fire resulting in the sentry guns podding me (which they still did at that point) thereby removing my character from the gene-pool. |

dumbest thing i did is loose my rifter by running from a buch of cruisers, going to repair and coming back to the same spot only to find out the cruisers didnt leave.

A fellow corp member was making a long courier run to pick up some mega and zyd. He is in a very fast frig, but still takes some hits on the way back. I'm sent out to meet him along the route and escort him back home. He was fairly beat-up and I was fairly paranoid. We warp into a jumpgate and I see the '+' sign floating near by and think PIRATES! So I lock on and immediately open fire....without checking the target lock picture.
Unfortunately I had opened up on Concord cops and they were ****ed. I jumped with about 20% hull left.

I would like to nominate Setec for the darwin award. Hers what happened setec intercaepted a corp mate of mine at a stargate took his armor down to 0 then demanded a 300k toll my friend got away with paying 100k and went on his way. me and 3 corp mates all in thorax decided to go after setec with the intention of killing and podding him after about an hour of jumping we find that setc is in a high security system and untouchable.my corp mates start killing some npc pirates nearby and i head for home.on my way home he just happens to warp a the same gate i just warped to he is about 10k ahead of me when i see him i deploy my 8 heavy drones and lock on to him.he knows i'm gunning for him as i just talked to him 15 min before he starts warp disrupting me we are in .7 system this is a day after the latest patch the sentry guns at the gate open up on him and i return fire as well.his bb is destroyed and he manages to getin his pod and jump out . a few min after his destruction he messages me says "oh i forgot that warp scrambline is now considered aggressive action boy am i dumb" i thought "yep" now don't you think this guy Setec deservers the eve darwin award :)

Wearing my shiny new Punisher, fitted with a micro graviton smartbomb I decided to find some weedy pirates to try it out on.
Spotted 3 near a stargate, flew into their midst and activated the bomb. The stargate was within the blast radius of the bomb, the sentry guns were upset, I was a floating egg.
