I was hunting in tribute the other day, with 15 of you in local, trying to get a inty 1v1 in my claw vs some guy who i killed earlier in a crow. who was begging for a rematch. So after some discussion I agree to gang him and make a safespot, so i gang him, we warp to a safespot, and omg look, hes in a harpy. So I of course leave, then your entire alliance in local proceeds to mass convo and gang invite me, while smacking that I was lame for "running from an even 1v1." So yeah, sweeping generalizations 4tw, when they are backed up by first hand experience

I would say it is the opposite. They easily have the numbers and ability to win almost any battles they choose. But battles don't win wars in EVE, determination over a longer period of time does. And that is where 5/BoB lack a bit due to the inherently short attention span common to virtually all PvP junkies in this game. As shown time and time again, they will quite often leave the area before a war has been conclusively finished due to boredom, which vastly reduces their ability to actually win wars, although they may win the majority of all battles in those wars.
