What's the best mining setup for a Caldari ship (any class).
Thanks

Most effecient bet will be a Scythe. Fit:
HI 3x Miner II, 1x Heavy Missile Launcher MED Medium Shield Booster, Roid Scanner, some hardeners or cap modules. LOW CPU mods if needed, Expanded Cargo hold. |

Given that the Scythe is a minmatar ship I doubt that will be helpful.
Substitute the Osprey for the Scythe in the post above. :)

Lets get a little more specific than Osprey/Ferox.
Osprey:
3 Miner IIs, 1 Arbalest Assault Missle Launcher 1MW Afterburner, 1 Large Shield Extender 3 Co-Processor Is
Now do keep in mind kiddies, I have Mining 4, Astrogeology 3, Caldari Cruiser 3, and Refining 4 so I get the most BANG for my buck.
Right now I get 138.24 Ore Units per Miner II and I have 3 of those equipped and running for a total of 414.72 Ore Units per Cycle.
Until I got my Medium Mining Barge with two Strip Miner Is on there, this is what I used EXCLUSIVELY for mining. Then I used a Badger II for hauling.
The Badger II has:
1 Miner II and 1 Small Plasma Smartbomb (just for fun, I don't just sit there and mine, too boring!, and the smartbomb doesn't help too much, only if enemies get too close while warping)
10 MN Afterburner II, Medium Shield Booster I, Secondary Parallel Link Capacitor, Industrial Capacitor Recharger, Cap Recharger I, Basic Capacitor Recharger
3x Basic Expanded Cargohold.
Even with all of this I get 117 m/s with no AB on and around 250 with AB II on. I also get 9182 m3 of hauling! :-D
For a Ferox, it is up to you. Been soooo long since I used a Ferox for mining, I don't remember how I had it set up. Basically I know I had 3 Miner IIs on it but not at the same level that the Osprey had due to the bonus on the Osprey.
Hope this helps, let me know if anyone has any better ideas for this!

Edited by: Brannor McThife on 15/06/2005 08:14:49 Actually, with 3 Cargo Expanders (18%), your Badger II will get just UNDER 10k. 9919.8 m^3.
My Osprey is sitting at my local starbase, just waiting for me to pick it up... weeeee.
[EDIT] And though my mining skills are not very high (only got Mining 4) and I don't have enough skills to put all the gadgets I'd like onto my Badger, my Badger II can carry 12619.8 m^3.

Yeah, I just haven't felt like paying more for the expanded modules yet. Next on my list once PE gets up to around 4 in about 2 1/2 hours is to get Mining to level 5 so I can use Modulated Strip Miner IIs and start training Deep Core Miners.
And if people like mining, and industry, and love working together with awesome people along with some PVP and mission running, come check out Archon Industries at www.archonindustries.org.

better train astrogeology, unless you can fly a barge there is no way you can fit stripminers on a cruiser.

Actually a better set up than the above for a Caldari mining fitting is either with a Moa or a Ferox.
Moa: Hi: 4xt2 miners 2x HM launchers
Med: 1x 10NM MWD 1x Med sh. booster 1x Industrial cap recharger
Low: 4x t2 CPU
Ferox:
Hi: Same as moa, but 1 extra t2 miner Med: 1 x med. sh booster 1 x L sh. hardener 1x 10NM AB
Low: 4 x t2 CPU
With the Moa setup you're working just a little bit more effectively than a small mining barge. The Ferox setup is that much more better

my best mining fit for osprey for mining (ninja) in 0.0 :
High : 3 miner II, empty medium : 1 roid scanner, 1 medium clarity, 1 cap rech (barton) low : 2 * 'stoic' core (named WCS), 1 cargo expander
so i use BM always. I fit 2 WCS to be sure to warp out, and the medium ship booster help. I've fit the cargo expander cause i've caldari cruiser 4, astro 3, mining5 and always 1 laser stop each minute without the expand.
never loose an osprey during mining party in 0.0

Currently using the following setup:
3 Miner IIs, 1 Assault Launcher EM/Kin hardeners 2 Small Armor Repper, CoPro I
With Mining 4, Cruiser 4 and Astro 3 I get around 148 Units of Ore per Miner.
This is more than a Ferox with 5 Miner IIs because the bonus on the Osprey gets me beyond the yield of 5 Miner IIs without bonus.

at most you guys seem to of given little mention to the bonus on the ospray which effectivally at lvl 5 makes 3 miner 2 mine as mutch as 6
Ospray Stats
if that helps any
and btw the med barge is still just ahed of it in mineing stakes due to the ship bonus of 3% mining yeild per lvl i think it is

There is no better cruiser for mining. The Domi can mine an equivalent amount, but is significantly more durable. (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination.

Well I spent the time training up so that I could use the medium mining barge Retreiver, which in my case I had a bunch of the base skills already. Since I want to be an major miner type, the medium barge was the best bang for my training time.
I also recommend getting the following skill up: Mining: +5% per lvl to mining laser yeild Refine: -2% per lvl to waste when you refine at station Refine Eff: -4% per lvl to waste when you refine at station Astrogeology: +5% per lvl to mining laser yield Mining Barge: +3% per lvl to modulate strip miner yeild.
I have trained up the following lvls: Mining lvl 5 = +25% mining laser Astrogeology lvl 5 = +25% mining laser Mining Barge lvl 4 = +12% mod strip miner. total +62% yield.
I have also trained up the required still for the secondary processing skills, which help much with refining the ore and cutting down on the lost minerals.
You will also need to train each secondary processing skill for the ore you want to mine to lvl 3, if you want to use the t1 crystals in the modulate strip miner. See this Linkage for the mining crystal requirements.
With the current skills and setting I am pulling in 1023.75 raw ore every 3 mins. This is times two, since I am using 2 modulated strip miner II's. This equals 2047.5 ore every 3 mins, which is 682.5 every minute. Once I get the mining barge to lvl 5, this should become ~1100 raw ore every minute.
Well help that helps out, I would recommend going for the barge as it is the winner in ore mining.

Anybody got an idea as to what the mining upgrade actually does. I did a quick test and it hardly seems worth using them.
The details for mining upgrade says it reduces cycle time for mining lasers whilst increasing cpu usage.
This was in retriever. i have mining lvl 5, mining barge lvl 3, astrogeology lvl 4.
mining upgrade online, strip miner 1, 180secs, 3090 viscous pyro
mining upgrade offline, strip miner 1, 180secs, 2945 viscous pyro
That works out to be a approx 1% increase in mining yield for the same cycle time.. which hardly seems worth it. Any ideas? or is this what we get for struggling to get the cpu to even use the mining upgrade on retriever?

Math = Wrong.
1% of 2945 is 29.45
3090 - 2945 = 145
145 / 29.45 = 4.92% increase. ----------

This is with those wasteful tech2 crystals which you shouldn't use :) As well as two mining upgrades fitting in low

for this you need mining upgrades 2 and electorics 4 and med drones
3 Miner 2s 1 Servey scanner 2 Mining Laser upgrads 1 Co-processor
I've trained Mining 5, astro 4.
I get 477 units of ore per cycle with set up using drones for defense in .6+ systems.

Hi All
This might be getting OT, but it seams ppl are mentioning Barge and mining upgrades.. I have a covertor, with 3 stripminer I's., 1 Mining upgrade I in the lowslot. now this give a nice output, about 1019 units for each stripminer, but more want more.. any ideas on how to get a second mining upgrade fitted? would be a shame to waste that extra low slot :) problem is, I need 20 more cpu...
Skills: Electronics lvl5 to boost cpu, mining upgrade lvl4, lvl5 would take me some 20 days more, anyone know if that would give me the power I need? or it will be 20 wasted traning days? :)
Anything that can be fitted to med-slots that boost cpu? I find none :-/

My skills are mining 4 and astro 4 with mining drone 4 and Drone Interface 4 Cyclone:
5 miner 2's 60*5=300 m3 *1.2 (mining 4) *1.2 (astro 4) = 432 m3 * 1.05 * 1.05 (for each mining upgrade) = 476 roughly per minute 3 assault launchers
a varied mid slot assortment with a shield booster
2 mining upgrades 2 cpu's
5 mining drone 1's 5*15= 75m3 *1.2 (mining drone 4) * 1.8 (drone interface 4)= 162 * a relative time coeeficent of anywhere from .5 -.9 depending on your distance from the nearest roid. lets say a .8 for figures 162 *.8 = 129.6 m3 3 light drones for defense
Total mining yield per minute: 605.88

Covetor base cpu output = 200 tf Electronics V = 1.25*200= 250 tf to work with
Strip miner (t1 or t2) base cpu need = 60 tf Mining upgrade I cpu need = 30 tf
Lets say we have mining upgrades V trained, this would mean we see a 25% reduction in the penalty of the upgrade. Therefore the base 10% penalty to the cpu of the lasers would be reduced to 7.5% of each laser. So each strip miner (both t1 & t2) would use 69.3375 tf if we have two mining upgrades fitted.
Bear in mind we have two mining upgrades fitted so we have 250 tf - 60 tf = 190 tf left to online our 3 lasers. However, since one laser needs 69.3375 tf to online we can see we're 208.0125 - 190 = 18 tf short
quite sad really, and unless my math is off, its impossible to fit 3 strip miners and 2 mining upgrades on a covetor. the only way to reach this goal would be to purchase one of those ridiculously overpriced hulks (build cost for these is only around 40mil).

This has been puzzling me, and the post above me touches a little bit on Strip Miners; but anyways, here's the question:
I was looking at the Ice Harvester and Strip Miner and all versions of these lasers require 12,000cpu.
They get a 98% reduction when fitted on a mining barge.
2% of 12,000 = 240cpu without upgrades, even the mining barge V of each race can't handle even on laser.
But obviously people strip mine, so what other math is involved to get, as posted in the above post:
Strip Miner = 60cpu
I'm training my skills up to buy a procurer to get me started and am just curious as to what to expect once I have it. Thanks for the help in advance guys!

Im real new to Eve, only about 14 days so far. Ill list what I am doing now with my mining, and can anyone possibly give me suggestions, or just confirm that Im on the right track?
I'm currently mining in 0.6 space (pretty much to myself) using;
Scythe for mining, HI: 3x miner II's, 2x named assult launchers MED: 3x civi-shield boosters LO: 3x co processor 1's 1x warrior drone
The Scythe gets a +20% bonus to mining yield per lvl, and I have cruiser lvl 3 (training 4) Mining 4 Refining 4 Have planned for the imediate future astrogeology and omber processing.
Currently, with cruiser lvl 3 I pull in 576 units/tick for all 3 lasers. I try to position myself in a belt where I am within 11,999m from at least 10 astroids each containing about 2400-4200 units each, this allows me to pretty much fill up a temp can.
hoarder for hauling fitted with 3 cargo expander 1's and 3 giant containers for a total cargo cap of a little under 12k m3 (can empty out a nearly full can in 2 trips). With the instant-warps I can travel the 1 system over (no stations in my mining system) in aobut 3 minutes per trip.
This has gotten me about 40 million isk in under 5 days (given 2 days I was sick and mined for about 10 hours between the 2 days). So far this seems to be working, but I was told that a mining barge would be more efficient, but no numbers were given and Im having a hard time locating all the modifiers that I "could" utilize. I solo mine for the most part (combat in groups) , and curently money isn't a huge issue (for what I can fly) and just wanted to know if spending the time on barges would be worth it to me?

its just jetcanning (jettisoned cargo container). jettison you first mining of ore then open the cargo container and keep putting the ore in. It does mean that some one can fly along and steal from it though even in high sec. they will be flagged to you if they do that, so you can shoot them, however if you are in a mining ship you will most likley get pwned. --------------------------------------------- A drone is for life, not just for Christmas. |
