Now we are talking about protecting haulers in low sec space, someone else put it about a day or two ago in a thread about suicide Kestrels:
Originally by: Monty Burns Now hears a thought .... your all worried over suicide Kezzie squads? Well, lets see now ... they fire Kinetic (probably) right?
Why is it so dificult for people to not just tank against this damage? Whats your primary goal in this situation:
to survive long enough to warp away/let Concord have a word with em maybe?
Simple hint for ya:
Mammoth Top slots: leave until the end Middle slots: 3 Hardners, 1 Extender and 1 booster (now can you guess which hardners to use????) Low: Im guessing ... maybe expanders or you can swap around for WCS, your choice.
This gives me shileds of 650+840 armour, of which 650 are at 81.3% resist to kinetic (and boostable!) and thats only using two kinetic hardners leaving a third to support the other types.
Of course this still leaves your lows to configure how you like and use the leftover CPU/PG to use on the top.
Remember, your goal is not to defeat, not to kill but to survive maybe 30 seconds in which to either warp or let the boyz in blue do there stuff. ..... Yours 'Never lost a Mammoth to Kezzies'
Monty
I think you get the general idea, although why im making my life harder by telling you how to protect your ships is beyond me What he didnt say was that the armour also has its resists as well, you may want to sacrafice one slot for armour tanking?
/me slaps himself round the face "Shut up you numpty Dark!"
Maybe I feel sorry for ya all The only thing the Gallente should host is an invasion. Backing the Caldari bid. |

Originally by: Deja Thoris Fact is, 90% of noobs have shot something in highsec. I know there is a popup but they wont know theres a really harsh penalty.
The harsh penalty was for destroying something in highsec, not shooting at it. How many of those noobs that shoot something in highsec by accident manage to do enough damage to kill it?
Besides, you have to put some responsibility on players to know the rules - otherwise any rule could be argued away with this argument. Heck, if it's that much of a problem, give every new char a 1-kill probationary period, so they can have their one accident and get let off, but not for the second one. Anyone trying to use this for piracy would have to be recycling alts at a rate that would make the activity obvious.
Originally by: Domatavus Fallatus warning is also displayed when engaging wartargets.
Then surely the warning needs fixing

Originally by: TheMoog No ship can come close to kill a boosted-hauler before Concord fry their behind. All that without taking a sec hit by engaging gankers first. You don't lose any ship nor any cargo either.
Quit crying, adapt to the game.
A Raven can, easily, solo. Hell, a scorp can. In fact, any ship that can hit hard and fit some jammers can. Want to use cheaper ships? It only takes one ship to jam the support ship. The others can gank the hauler before the support ship relocks it.
Interestingly, the topic starter is the one proposing changes (crying), and expecting other to adapt, not me.
Taking options away from players has a proven track record of backfiring. Can you honestly say there is no chance the same would happen here?

horrible idea... if anyone of you knew anything about pvp you would know that shooting things by accident happens ALL the time. In fact this idea is so unreasonable i have absolutly no worries of it ever being implemented.
Now that warning you were referring to also happens in 0.0 space, so anyone who has ever legitimatly fired a shot there has disabled the warning. Now when they get to an empire war and can't removed neutrals from their scanner they go to lock someone right as another neutral shows up and replaces their spot on the scanner and gets shot.
This results in him getting conkorddoken (there is a reason ppl came up with a name for this, b/c it happens ALL THE FREAKING TIME!) ---------------

I'd really like to try the Raven thing. My support ship can withstand the fire from a Raven against the boosted ship AND another raven against it long enough for CONCORD to come. My support ship can also kill quite fast any ship trying to lock/jam/attack me, smaller than a BS.
As of now, it boosts a Raven quite good through a fair load of lvl 4 missions.
You need to haul 2 bil$ worth of BPO ? Then take 2 or 3 of those support ships and a scout. _________________ CEO, 3240 Inc. We Solve Problems |

For there to be a solution there has to be a problem. There isn't one.

I'd support the idea if there was also something forcing players into low-sec after their characters have been around for a month.
Until then, bad idea. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

I agree that it should be POSSIBLE to get a kill in high sec space. However it is getting to be so common that it's stupid. A significant part of the problem is the sheer volume of high value goods being moved to Yulai. However, there is almost no way to protect it.
Have an escort? If they fire first, they're gone leaving your hauler defenseless. If they wait for the pirate to fire first they will not be able to react fast enough to save the cargo.
When you have pirates camping the DED - X station daily it is an indication of a problem.
My fix? I don't do business in yulai anymore.
EDIT: I wonder how this increasingly common tactic will affect the use of freighters when they come in...

Buy a transport ship. Laugh as Yulai pirates dumb enough to try to gank a transport ship get ganked by concord as you sail past on your way. At 75m/s.....but still in 1 piece.

Ok, I have a bit of anger built up on this subject so please bare with me a bit here.
High sec ganking is a rediculous!!! I spent 2hrs last night trying to dock in Yulai because some nit-wit in a carcal wanted to try and take my expanders AFTER I had repalced them once already. If you expect any type of production to continue, then you need to have secure systems. Not systems where I could 'never' die but ones where it would be costly for the aggressor to make an attack.
The argument that "they lose there ships too" is honestly stupid. They lose an insured bs with tech1 stock gear...get back 85M for the next one and I lose 600m in expanders and cargo?
And the 'carebear' comments are uncalled for...this is a GAME! Not a PVP game...just a game. Why people should be subjected to some idiot who obviously cant earn a living in low sec as a pirate is beyond me.
A severe sec hit is the very least a person should have to deal with considering the EXTREME profit they can make.

Sorry, for a moment there I thought you were complaining that you can't safely transport 600mil worth of goods in a 500k ship.

The only thing that CCP needs to do to 'fix' high sec ganking is linking sec status to character slot and not to the character itself. That way characters that are recycled will start out with the bad sec status they had (because of ganking). You will still be able to kill people in high sec, only recycling your character to get rid of the penalty will not work anymore.
(any newbie who makes a mistake and gets a sec hit and might complain that now he can't play.... he starts out with 3 character slots, use one of those and when you got experience you can start the low sec one again. By that time you'll ave enough experience to overcome the minor problem.

Anyone else find it ironic that the station being camped by criminals is a Concord station?

Meh felt the need to continue crying after Avons claims that I was crying about the problem....
yes its true... I lose all my indies in Yulai.. thats why i came to *****. I live in yulai and pwn Ve;d dont ya know
But as for this comment it was made clear in the 1st post that the sec hit would only apply to a 'Ship Kill' not aggression...
And as to the PvP guys saying that you target the wrong thing by accident all the time ? So ?
Whether you did by accident or not if you own a neutral youve commited a serious crime... Now if you simply fired on that neatral you would just recieve your standard sec hit and lose your ship. And presuming its bs vs bs how many people can insta frag it by accident
As someone pointed out.. (it gave me a chuckle ) its quite amusing that a home system of concord is camped by pirates
Go back to low sec where you belong damn it !

Nope - solves nothing, bad idea, not thought through.
Well, Avon is against it so it must be a pretty good idea for putting a crip in the carebear pirate lifestyle.

loosing a 4-5mill ship to kill a 500k ship sounds about fair imo

It is good to see that nothing changes. A good solultion to the problem that does not overtly hurt either side is proposed and the carebear pirates swarm out to kill it. Long live the gankers.
