Just another newb offering some points. And this for my first Eve forum post.
Environments:
System-Wide: * Affectes all areas in the system, near stations, near planets, asteroid fields, everything
= Nebulae/Clouds/Fields : Various effects could be created (Nebulae, Dust Cloud, Sensor Dampening POS complexes???, Solar Events, etc.) to simulate a system wide dampening effect for one particular class of sensors (LADAR, RADAR, MAGNETIC, and the other). If this is some natural event the effect could have a lesser effect against other sensor types as well. A physical cloud could also limit lines of sight, giving rise to ghost-ship effects! (ships appearing out of nowhere) Could have this affect a number of systems, or it could be some sort of Empire use EW weapon.
- Tactical advantage for ships that can deduce which sensors if any are affected. Could also create side-effects based on the field type. For example: A highly magnetic system throws off Magentic sensors, but allows large ships to build up surface static electricity that can he harvested for cap recharge bonuses as long as they're moving. The charge is largely surface area based, so the larger the ship the larger the bonus to cap recharge.
- Ships with that sensor type find sensor ranges reduced, and/or lock-on times increased.
= Corrosive environment: Some industrial/stellar accident has created an environment that slowly erodes one element of defense (either shields or armor or both!). Could represent the effect with gas swirls around the ships, or persistant colored particles, lightning storms, anything really... Resistances help mitigate but never completely counter the corrosive factor.
- Tactical advantage for someone baiting someone else. Give one empires ships an advantage over anothers. May further encourage faction specific mining ships
- Obviously, the DOT (damage over time) effect is a huge negative. This limits ships ability to remain in system.
= And last, but not least, Starless systems!!! Have systems where conflicts have completely eliminated the sun (Titan doomsday weaps anyone??) and thrown system gravity out of whack... have drifitng star gates, drifting asteroid belts, planets breaking up into incredibly rich but HIGHly dangerous asteroid fields. (Have 'roids show up as hostiles in the overview, and they explode like short range smart bombs if they get close to any ships.)
There has to be more than this...
Short answers for battle locations: Planet side? Low Planet Orbit? (other ships in the area, shuttles and that sort) Warp Bubble rats and factions? Previous generation Mothership ruins? Previous generation Titan ruins? Previous generation Dreadnaught ruins?
