Although I am a fan of insta-bookmarks, here is what I see as a reasonable compromise: 1. Create a new skill; perhaps named "Warp Precision". For balance, require Warp Drive Operation V as a prerequirement.
2. Limit the minimum distance to a large object (say a station or a jump gate) that a ship can warp to 15km minus (2.6 times Warp Precision skill level). At level V, a ship could warp to within 2km of a gate. |

No no no.
Skill based "solutions" will penalise new players.
I have many skills maxed, I can afford to train this to 5 asap. New players cant and they are the ones who will get spanked.
Think it through !!!

New players are not setting insta-bookmarks. Also, new players tend to stay in high sec areas.

Oh, sorry!
That thread in "noobs Q&A" where I replied to copying bm's must have been an old character posing as a noob.
Refer to my original reply. As it stands your idea sucks.

how about indestuctable [Warp in Moduls] at every gate that stop every ship 7,5km or 10km away from the Gate in all directions ... and lets the locking time of gate camping ships shrink " the Signatur Radius of Ships smaller" ?!

that last reply is another solution stopping warping at 7.5 km of the gate but that would be one more field where you remove completely cunning from the circuit insta were invented by cunning people and were a show off of uber playing.
such is having a scout or covertops ship providing a location to jump to and benefitting from insta jumping, that is to me a very valid form of teamplay.
your idea denies the ability to players to scout a system and get ready , it also denies the teamplaying option of slipping away from a blocade thanks to a covert scout.
thats why i prefer the idea of the inaccurate warp jump through skills and modules, as deja said the skill should not be too hard to get, it is implemented now i dont see why it should favor veterans more than newbies, veterans already have a lot of edges on newbies they dont need one more.
i also prefer the idea of drifting bookmarks that would allow bookmarking but would make insta valid for a couple of days then they would become almost instas and after 2 weeks they would be not insta bookmarks at all leading the player who uses it completely ashtray of the gate he his aiming for. that along with restricting the number of bookmarks to a more reasonable number 50 100 200 i dont know exactly,( to me 50 is already not that bad it is a 25 jumps road )so that people have to clean themself their bookmarks instead of storing thousands of them and make everybody lag.

This is becoming probably the most popular thread ever. And to be honest not alot ever gets said differently in each thread.
So far everyones more or less agreed on
-Disallowing warp too close to a large collidable (Insta BM to Station or Gate) -Introducing a skill to allow warping closer. -Another person suggested that all large items are subject to Orbit of the planet. I.e the object is always moving and the only way to get to it is to warp to the object not the insta.
My favorite of those most popular ones is Introduce Orbit. Make Large collidables constantly moving on a set path. (Shame it kinda defeats the object of being anchored in space) But it would get rid of instas and ensure they never come back, That coupled with allowing to warp closer to object would work alot better I feel. |
