Edited by: Lupus Venator on 20/06/2005 23:58:39 Been playing EVE for a few days now and have started learning about the importance of skills and attributes. For my first character I just ignorantly placed some random starting attributes and hoped for the best (although I didn't put anything in charisma :) ). I personally live and breathe PvP and I'm also a team player so I ultimately want to travel into 0.0. Overall I want to be PvP orientated but some specialty in being able to perform recon and acting as support in battle.
I wanted to know what type of starting build I should go for in order to meet my interests above because all this info is quite overwhelming. Is it true to believe that how you start out can have quite an impact later on? Should Race and sub race affect my choices?
EDIT: I'm not asking for actual numbers as that avoids the whole point in learning. I'm just after some general direction.

For PVP most people focus Perception, Willpower, for support most people focus Intelligence, Memory.
Most people balance it out by maxing Percep/Intelligence, keeping Willpower/Memory somewhat close.
ignore charisma.

What Cannedbeef said is pretty much correct.
Dont totally neglect Int/Mem though as there are skills with these attributes that you have to have to PvP.
Int is slightly more important than Mem for the long haul.

To give a direction, here is some information that should help:
The majority of PvP Damange Skills require; Primary: Perception Secondary: Willpower.
The Majority of PvP Defence Skills require: Primary: Intelligence Secondary: Memory
When calculating the time to train a skill, it is effected by (2 x Primary + 1 x Secondary). So every point in the primary has double the effect of the secondary.
Hope that helps.

Thanx guys. Based on what you said and a bit of time with a spreadsheet I think: Int: 9 Per: 10 Cha: 6 Wil: 7 Mem: 7
Is probably the best setup for me :)

Another Sebiestor? (No other subclass could have those stats.) I picked Sebiestor for balance also. However, I would recommend placing all 5 elective points in either perc or int. So your 2 best choices would be like so:
(+4I prof) Int: 13 Per: 8 Cha: 6 Wil: 6 Mem: 6
Tinkerers are kinda anemic in perception. Int/Mem score 16, Per/Wil score 11. Better for you would be:
(+3P +1W prof) Int: 9 Per: 11 Cha: 6 Wil: 7 Mem: 6
Int/Mem score 12, Per/Wil score 14.5. I don't think I would sacrifice a perc just to boost mem to 7. Better off going 10/10 int and perc, rather than that. Anyway, small change from yours. (I started with 6 Perc )
