Hello, folks,
Question for you all out there if you donÆt mind...
While mining is the main thing I do... I also want to run some Agent NPC hunting/fighting missions now and again as a change of pace.
IÆm qualified to fly either the Caldari MOA or Caldari Caracal cruisers... uh... IÆm Caldari too :)
From what IÆve read on the official web site and at the Eve-I site, the MOA is a stronger/tougher cruiser than the Caracal... and yet when I read boards, see ingame chat, and talk with folks I know... everyone seems to talk about the Caracal: ôGet a Caracal.ö & ôA Caracal is what you want.ö Etc. etc. I hadnÆt thought to ask folks ôwhyö at the time because I hadnÆt as yet looked at the stats of the two different ships. Now that I have... IÆm wondering WHY the hype for the Caracal?
Am I missing something? WHY does the Caracal seem to get more hype?
Is it just that itÆs a cheaper ship to buy and requires Caldari Cruiser II vs Caldari Cruiser III for the MOA?
Or is there something inherently better in how it works?
Again... IÆm just looking for a ship to run Agent NPC fighter/hunter missions with once in awhile.
So, which cruiser should I buy and why? IÆve got both the money and skill to get/fly either one.
Thanks for your time with this.

Caracal is a missile boat and thus requires less skills to be good. The moa is a gun boat and you need a decent amount of gunnery skills befor it gets good. I flew both and i prefer the caracal myself. Just remember to stay at a distance while shooting the heavy missiles and you'll be fine :)

Ships and Modules for teh lose eh?
Anyways, I think it's becuse the caracal can support lots of launchers so it does more damage. It also looks alot cooler. ----------------------------------------------- CANADIAN |

A properly set up Moa is a great gate camping ship, and gets it fair share of pods as well. Caracals rarely can get a pod as it takes too long for the missiles to get there.
After the patch though its anyones guess.

Ahhhh... I did notice that one is more of a gun boat and the other a missile boat.
What I didn't know, (and the list of what I don't know is HUGE, hehehe), is that guns are harder to use, requiring more skill training, than missiles... at least until the patch.
And yes... I agree... the Caracal DOES look cooler IMHO :)
Guess I'll start off with a Caracal. I've always liked missiles and being more of a long range combatant in games.
Thanks all for the help.

Go with the caracal. If you have skills for this ship that isn't skill intensive, you can really crank out a lot of damage on whatever target you want. And if you are newish, its got good range without sacrificing damage, so you can be safe from a lot of rats ---

missiles are very good at shortrange, is it makes no difference as long as they can reach the target.
guns have a optimal range, and the bigger the gun the bigger probs u get when a target gets too close.

Moas are ugly, caracal looks cool.
Caracals: kill at very long range, and don't need many skills to be effective. This makes them an _excellent_ 'my first cruiser'.
Caldari cruiser 1, missile launcher operations 3, heavy missiles 1, and afterburner 1, and you can use a caracal fairly effectively. Although a MWD helps, so you can stay at 50km.
Spam heavy missiles, wait for things to die. (At least until the next patch, anyway, when it'll be spam light missiles from assault launchers)
Moas: Are a more well rounded ship. They are tougher, and really do benefit from gunnery skills as well as missile skills. And because they're shorter range (well, you _can_ use rails at 50km, but they do cack all damage) you need to be able to tank a bit, and fight effectively.

With Caracal you do not need to worry about tracking, signature radius...etc (at least yet). Missles are reliable any-to-long range weapon. But eventualy, as you will train gun skills, you will be able to use guns just as good if not better then missles. So take Caracal, don't bother with guns untill you have trained all of the gun skills to respectable levels.

James everyone says Caracal and they are right. But if you have Caldari Cruiser at 3, get the BC skill and Ferox.

Ferox is about 5 times more expensive than Caracal. If you are on a budget, get a caracal. It has very comparable damage output. The only difference is that you will have to use your brains and keep away from damage, rather than soaking it up. ---
