To use to pull loot cans toward you so you dont have to fly to them they come to you :)
*****ble on all kinds of ships, especcialy good to fit on indy's for that 2nd hi slot.
Have named version with better range.

Good idea, the amarrs should be able to use a tractor beam turret, because they have knowledge in the laser equipment. The minmatar would use a magnetic hook launched with a harpoon launcher. The caldari and the gallente would use a Web Electron captor turret.

I like what I'm hearing!!
be cool for pvp too - imagine a blasterthron being able to pull that pesky inty into nos range!! w00t!
It'd also be funny if the "pull" strength was related to ship mass too - so if said inty were to use a tractor on a cruiser or something, the cruiser could still fly about, dragging the inty behind like a water-skiier!!!
Haha this is the best idea I heard for ages!!

Tractor on ships: BAD.
Tractor for cans: GOOD.

Yeh tractor on ships would be silly But tractor beam on cans would be wicked
We have been asking for this for way too long, and CCP seem to ignore our requests. Of course the tractor beam would only work on un-owned cans. You can tell which cans are not owned based when you show info no picture will show.
Surely it wouldnt be that hard to do. Not pull the cans , but retrieve the items from the can, until cargohold is full, just like on freelancer. Of course, not all ships would gimp their setups with a tractor beam, but loot collectors would save a lot of time and effort with a 30km tractor beam.
Or even, bring out a new class of ship, dedicated to loot collection. Call it a Scavenger or something. 1000m3, 300ms base speed, 1 high slot, 2 medium, 3 low. No turret/missile hardpoints, tractor beam would work much like the strip miners , in that it has a massive cpu requirement, but a ship bonus ie 500% reduction in CPU needs.
The second bonus could maybe give a 5% bonus to max speed per level, or 5% to cargo capacity. It's hitpoints would be no better than a mining barge or frig, so if you find one stealing your cans from a mission in lowsec, you can easily dispose of him.

I like the idea to Tractor Cans, sometimes gets annoying where you have about 3/4 cans all just out of reach from each other.
Also, tractoring your own, unmanned ships would be useful, that could include a new ship for that purpose - one with height power engines yet low speed. This would make it easier to move your æhomeÆ stationà
