Actually, it makes perfect sense that the Dreadnought looks alot like the Dominix, they are of the same era (Caldari-Gallente War). Just take a look at the vessels described as "old" in the list of Gallente ships. The Velator and Dominix have brown colors and... molded shapes. The Dreadnought and the Titan are both old ships, they should not have the "new" sleek and shiny design that modern Gallente vessels have.
I can't wait to see proper texturing for this thing, the model is quite interesting and consistent with EVE history.

fugly. it's massively fugly.
looks like a giant slug crossed with space whale.
the thorax and new amarr freighter and the revelation are by far the best ships ingame now to look at.
Even the brutix looks more sleak that that thing.

yup.
it goes past fugly and into kitch and then into so-fugly-its-cool and then wraps round back to fugly (but in a spiral) and keeps wrapping around and spiralling towards the dark centre, the abyss that stares back, the "ayyeeeee" fuglyness of having your cat drop a*****roach on your lap. and other mind-scarringly fugly things.
It is the one ship that i wont mind seeing ganked to death by ebil pieawts.
it'll probably win lots of battles simply because it will cause uncontrollable retching to most other pilots when you warp in -------------

I'm sure the graphic artist put a lot of time into the model for that.
I wish I had recommendations on what would make it better, but I'm a total gomer when it comes to 3d art/Maya.

i actually liked the gallente dread :) Think proper textures will do a lot for giving the model more depth.

I think an interesting design for the gallente dreadnought would be a central eye structure, with 3 arms extending forward, each arm ending in a turret.
Make it green and biological looking.

Can't help but agree with Digi, in fact i'd extend what he is saying to all the dreadnoughts, they are pig ugly and we deserve better !!!!

It may be just me.. but.. I love the gallente dread.
It's big. It's not pretty. It's got railguns that fire projectiles the size of automobiles. It kills stuff. It's a freakin' warship.
It's ugly, but it's cool, and it looks the part.

I actually like the Amarr one, and the Minnie one. I refuse to pass judgement on a ship that isn't finished.
I would very much enjoy to see the people that are complaining so much about how they are "pig ugly" to offer a better alternative.
The Revelation is very pleasing to the eye, the Naglfar is somewhat reminiscent of the Pride of Hiigara, and while there may be the possibility that it could've been skinned better I love the general shape/style of it.

One of the things that attracts me to eve is the beautiful ship designs, teh fact that every faction has distinct design features both in colour tones and in shapes used.
Amarr - sleek, aerodynamic and shell-like in form, golden tones all round stunners usually >>>>> Amarr dreadnought, has a Quiff and is proportionally not in synch with the other ship classes.
Gallente - organic shapes, sleek is still the name of the game, but less so, the front of the ship is usually very distiguishable from the rear end, green organic tones >>>>> Gallente Dreadnought, amourphous blob with no clear lines ..
Minmatar - cluttered shapes, dark rusty tones, usually the least sleek ship designs but still imposing and have a sinister/imposing design criteria >>> Minmatar Dreadnought is aligned to the vertical axis, why? no other ship in the game has that characteristic, its proportions do not fit with any other minmatar ship .....
I guess I feel strongly about this.. im sorry.... I just love the ship designs in EVE they are the best designs I have seen in any game. I just see the latest designs for the dreadnoughts as a departure from that.....

I can't really judge the ship, with its current texture I can't really make much of anything out, but from what it seems you have a pic we have'nt seen so if you feel like eve-mailing me the link

Just add some bladelike portrusions like the Megathron has at the tip of its prongs and you could easily alleviette most complaints.

Gallente Dreadnought = untextured heap of...... yeah you get the idea.
I would love to see it more streamline (like the thorax, long) and maybe have a nice dark paintjob like the navy mega or that pirate faction one.
Minmatar Dreadnought = control tower, nuff said.
Amarr Dreadnought = mmmm...... sexy

Actually I'd say that each race has more than one distinctive look, I'll use Gallente as an example here since that is what the topic is about. There are three main types in my mind, and then cross variations for some ships.
1: sleek, agressive lines: Thorax, Megathron, Incursus.
2: retro, vintage lines: Exequeror, Freighter(love it)
3: bulky, are those lines?: Imicus, Dominix
There is more to it in the design philosophy obviously, I've never thought about it too much tbh. Vexor, Celestis, Brutix are crossovers in design in my mind. The Tristan and Maulus have some classic Gallente design traits (the tri-linear viewport, and the sweet protrusions of armor and engines), but don't fall into another category really.
Personally, for a dreadnought, I'd want to see either the sleek design ideal, or go all out with the Gallente traits seen in the Tristan and Maulus.... yes, I know there is a big size difference

Honestly since i was told they were doing dreads I prayed for a 3 boom megathron but bigger and with a dark blue black paint scheme similar to the Khanid ships (which imo next to the megathron are the sexiest ships in Eve,Malediction is without a doubt the best looking Inty)

I say again, it would be inconsistant if the ship had a MODERN GALLENTE design. It is an old warhorse, from the same era as the Dominix. The Thorax and most other ships are Post-war designs = not a likely candidate unless the Gallente dreadnaught was suddenly constructed just like that in very few years.
Personally, I think it looks mightly cool, it will be kickass if it has the same color scheme as the Dominix and Velator.

I think they haven't put a final touch on the modelling and textures yet, so just wait and see what we get!
Or else we can just all go and kick our selfs. ----------

Im not sure how the Min Dread came about...but it is completely backward to the Min design philosophy. Other than that...Dreads seem to be just as expected.

It does look just a tad ugly, makes me glad to be Ammarian! Still, you might get lucky, it might not look just so bad once they finish texturing it and who knows maybe the Caldari one will look even worse and take the focus off of that monstrosity.

Off topic, but the Tempest is aligned to the vertical axis, and so is the rupture and vigil. Also, there are few ships (imo) as sleek looking as a rifter... it looks like a drag racer.
As for the Gal DN. Yeah, its ugly. Every gal ship except the thorax is pretty phugly imo. Big deal. As long as it does its job :P +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |
