I have 2 characters. My main character has learning lvl 4, and all other learning skills at lvl 3. My alt has all learning skills at lvl 3. My alt trained refining to lvl 5 in 5 days (refining is a rank 1 skill). Now, when I try to train gunnery to lvl 5 (gunnery is also a rank 1 skill) with my main character, who has a higher learning skill, it says 11 days!!!
What??? They are both rank 1 skills, with 256000 skill points at lvl 5, how can gunnery take more than twice as long as refining with a character who has a higher learning skill??

Gunnery has as dependant attributes Willpower and Perception. Refining has Intelligence and Memory as dependant stats. Those stats determine the time it takes to train a skill.
Basically, the higher the dependant attributes of the skill are, the faster they train.

The time it takes to learn skills is based on your attributes. It would be nice if they told you that at character creation eh? Anyway, you most likely have different attributes on each character.

You can look at it this way:
To learn a skill level, you have a certain time to train. This time is divided by a factor.
The factor is determined by the primary and secondary attributes for this skill; primary attribute + half of the secondary attribute.
For example:
Gunnery has perception as primary attribute, and willpower as secondary. If you have respectively 8 and 5, the factor is 10.5.
If another character has respectively 15 and 12, the factor will be 21, and it will take half the time for him to learn Gunnery.

Ok thx, now I get it.
My main's attrbutes are 17,8,8,8,11. And gunnery requires Willpower & Perception.
My alt's attributes are 12,6,5,13,13. And refine requires Intelligence and Memory.
I guess I screwed up my mains attributes when I created him.

You can always train the other learning skills, to make up for the lack of perception and willpower :)
