Could place the ship objects on the client end and solve the whole thing, and require the NDA for their modding....

I dunno if you have actually done it yet, but if not I remember while wildcard was doing it he come into massive complications, dont think I can really go into more detail

Well, obviously I haven't done it because that would be a eula violation ...
... but if I had, I would have probably managed most ships and be currently working on stations and jumpgates.

Hypothetically, if you were to attempt such a crime, would you use just .tri files or would you also use .blue files?

I would probably manually read the .blue files because I wouldn't have written a parser for them yet. (Not that I am any good with python anyway.)
If I was to do things properly I guess the ultimate goal would be to extract all the .stuff files and write a parser which can input .blue files and output 'usable' files, but that would be quite a long way off.
