Will someone please reply to my emails? I have sent various emails direct, and recently via Kieron requesting permission to use extracted game models in fan art, zero replies.
I have tried to go around this in the correct manner, where as I could have flooded the internet with renders already, with no traceability.
Oh, and Eris... ...please don't lock this stating 'email CCP' like you did for a similar post previously - if they aren't replying I have no way of knowing if they are getting my mails.
I'm fine with any other reason for a lock though :)

Avon, you should have mail hitting your inbox within the next few minutes. However, I can answer here as well.
Extracting ship, station, etc. models from the client is a violation of the EULA. The only times this has been allowed outside of the studio is with express concent of CCP after having agreed to/signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Since ship model extraction has been requested a high number of times, there is discussion over releasing a "ship model pack". However, the focus at this time is the content patch and there are no immediate plans to start working on such a pack.

That ship pack would be fantastic. I am great with Director and would love to put together a little old school R-Type kind of side scrolling shooter with EVE ships.

Promotion = Good, so why stop people from extracting things from the game for non-commercial purposes?

It's a form of modding.
Counter-Strike, one of the most popular online games ever was a mod
Modding is a good thing and it's fun, tons of games have huge mod communities and it's good fun ________________________________________________________

Honestly?
No idea. :)
The problem would be being able to fix conversion errors for formats I can't load - if the specs are available I guess most formats are possible. ______________________________________________ Pay or pray..er..prey..yeah, pray you aren't prey. Er, just pay. |

.obj -> .stp is what I would need to get a good usable model. I need the translation to support NURBS. ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

They both support .dxf, but that is an old AutoCAD 2D format.
To get a model with the best usable data I need a format that can handle NURBS.
Now, If CCP does use Alias, they should be able to get you .obj files instead of .tri files (which does not support NURBS AFAIK)
For me personally, .stp, .sat & .igs are the three formats (in order of preference) that I could use with the data I want.
Really, to get the best models, CCP would need to supply them, as extracting data from .tri files will not give full functionality...

Slight problem with that is .obj doesn't support everything .tri does.

count me in for a model pack if one's going
as to formats, aren't the models stored in triangle format already? I though I saw somewhere on some forum that someone had already extracted em and there was no nurbs information, just .tri files stuffed into the main pack.

Could place the ship objects on the client end and solve the whole thing, and require the NDA for their modding....
Not really enforceable but maybe it'd shed some lag and most of us EVE players aren't douchebags. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

Well, obviously I haven't done it because that would be a eula violation ...
... but if I had, I would have probably managed most ships and be currently working on stations and jumpgates.

Hypothetically, if you were to attempt such a crime, would you use just .tri files or would you also use .blue files?
Hypothetically of course....

I would probably manually read the .blue files because I wouldn't have written a parser for them yet. (Not that I am any good with python anyway.)
If I was to do things properly I guess the ultimate goal would be to extract all the .stuff files and write a parser which can input .blue files and output 'usable' files, but that would be quite a long way off.

Looks like we would go about doing things the same way then.
