Both at home and at work I have this weird but extremely anoying problem with the forums.
I use crazybrowser as my main browser, which is just a new gui on top of the IE browser engine. When viewing threads I open up the new threads in a new tab. No problems there.
The problem happens when I'm getting the avatars, it all too often stops downloading them and leaves my computer at 100% cpu usage. The browser becomes extremely slow and makes it a pain to view, to fix this I usualy just press the stop button and then everything turns back to normal except I have alot of missing avatar faces.
This happens also when I view long threads, so its not limited to tabs.
Am I the only one? can I scream ccp hates me?

for example I opened up this short thread http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=195210
and it stalled, cpu went to 100% for a few seconds while waiting to load only one avatar, the second last one. It finished and things went back to normal

Well then I guess your crazybrowser thingy does just what the name suggests... because I have no problem with the forums, neither on this Win2k IE SP2 system, nor on my WinXP IE. On both of them I also have Mozilla and Opera installed and those run the page error-free aswell, except for IE SP2 which tends to mess up the page layout from time to time, making the thread view appear below the rest of the page (navmenu, etc). Prolly a coding error, something to do with table layout, whatever.

I use Mozilla Firefox and do not have this problem. Give it a try, it's free.

Only problem I have ever had with avatars is if the avatar server is broken or something, and it just never bothers to try and load them, this is with firefox.

100% CPU usage can only be attributed to borked OS/browser.
My guess is tha you made the wrong choices on both of them

Edited by: Arud on 29/06/2005 13:20:25 I'd be very surprise if its the browser since
1st. its the same as IE 2nd. it happens only with the eve-o forums and only with the avatars 3rd. happens both at work and at home.. more often at work though.. or that I just notice it more since I have this trendy little compaq which spins up the cpu fan if the load gets high

...if thats a lame attempt to smacktalk IE or MS ou should look again, linux does the same thing, unix too...the issue isn't the OS or browser rather it is the code for the addon app. Crap code can be on any OS regadless of what you preffer.

1-get spybot s&d, run it after you allow it to update. 2-stop using ie add ons that are 'free' (your system is infested soon as you 'install' a free app) 3-tell the IT-dept at work about how you added the IE crazybrowser...and now have issues with the pc...

1. got it already 2. never ever use addons, they be of the devil 3. I am one of the IT guys at work, and crazybrowser is just one 500k install file, try it, www.crazybrowser.com, IE with tabs :)
I have one theory though, that is IE has the tendancy to fubar up images and think everything is a bmp image. The fix is to clear the catche but it only works for so long untill we are back to bmp. This might be one of the reasons.
but it still doesnt explain why it happens only with the forum, and only with the avatars.

Sounds like a poorly written extension for something that was never planned or intended to do tabs. I would suggust switching to opera or firefox if you want to have a tabbed browser.
I might be biased though - I cant use a browser without mouse gestures anymore.

crazy browser uses the IE render engine, so basicly crazybrowser == IE when it comes to anything regarding displaying content, downloading data and so forth. All crazybrowser does is change the GUI.

One word: Firefox
Free, built-in tab browsing, a sh!tload of nice features, no popups, no spywares, customisable GUI, runs on any OS, and most importantly, it renders HTML the right way (W3C way), unlike IE. _________________ CEO, 3240 Inc. We Solve Problems |

Actually this happens to me with Firefox and Mozilla.
Eve-O is the only reason why I launch IE

If you want to keep using IE and you want tabs, you can use the MSN toolbar instead of some untrustworty 3rd party addon.
http://toolbar.msn.com/
And ignore the Firefox sheep.
