Edited by: Verone on 30/06/2005 12:51:32 I'm a pirate, I ransom, or shipkill and podkill people on a daily basis. My corp has a collection of some of eve's finest vacuum frozen biomass.
The thing is, I can make a hefty profit from pirating (When I don't attempt it drunk), be it ransoming or module and cargo sales. It's a legitimate way to play.
Either way, a large proportion of my profits are donated to new players via the Help channels, and visits with an alt (Because of my appauling security status) to the faction starter systems.
Pirates aren't all bad, and just because someone blows your ship up, it doesn't mean they are a pirate.
A lot of people you see on the forums who smacktalk pirates are angry former victims, who want revenge for their losses, or people sat in rens doing level 4 missions, complaining about not wanting to go to lowsec space in case they lose their Navy Raven.
Usually, it's a case of a story being posted here is what a friend of a friend told the poster, with two ships attacking, suddenly turning into 15, with big guns... and heavy drones... and people screaming "Yaarrrr!111!!!!11!" in local.
Pirates are hated, because we chose to take what we want, when we want, or at least attempt to.
There's nothing against the rules about it, and people shouldn't moan about the fact they've lost stuff in lowsec because they get a warning abotu concord's waiver of any resopnsiblity for losses the frist time they jump in, if they turn it off, be it on their head.
On the other hand, there's the suicide kestrel 1.0 alts. This, is a disgrace, and a blatent exploit for the purpose of causing problems to players who don't wish to engage in combat. People who do it should have their testes removed with a blunt, rusty breadknife, and be dumped in a large barrel of salt.
Then there's snipers. If I ever feel the urge to blockade a system with some of my associates, this is something i disagree with doing, as there is little or no repremand for it. Blockading systems Snigg style, means we sentry tank in several battleships, within 20km of the gate, blasters, torps, pulses, all sort range high damage, and attempt to mutilate anything that goes past. We can be killed, or removed, and have been in the past when people have faced us off, and people can negotiate a toll to pass trouble free.
Real pirates are looking for PVP, a real pirate wants that person npcing in a belt to fight back, and do their best to kill him. Only when he's about to drop should someone submit to a ransom.
In my opinion, the following is appropriate :
A pirate is like a mugger, he's close to a PvPer, but he'll beat the living hell out of you, if he sees the opportunity and take what he can get. Sometimes, you might end up dead, if you're unlucky enough to put up enough of a fight that you panic him.
A Player Killer, like you see sat 180km off a gate with his blackbird boosting buddy, is more like a blatent murderer, he'll kill you, simply for the personal satisfction of seeing you hit the floor in a heap.
Then there's the Griefer, the 1.0 sec system Kestrel ganker. These are comparible to the common thugs you see on the street, that kick the hell out of people for little or no profit, just for the fun of seeing them retaliate, or get hurt.
Finally we have the PvPer, similar in respect to a matial arts expert. He uses his skills when required, or asked to do so, not for material profit, but for self defence, or to warn of potential threats. He can also be hired, to use his skills, for the protection or benefit of other people.
Next time someone kills you, ransoms you or whatever, people need to realise that there's a person behind the avatar you're sending the OOC abuse about family members to in an eve-mail, or posting on the forum.
People need to take ship losses, implant losses, and this whole game in general less seriously because at the end of the day, that's exactly what it is : A GAME.
In closing, i'd like to conclude with the following : Yarrrr!11!!!11!!1 etc.
