I disagree completely. And Im becoming a firmer believer of the philosophy that people don't know what they really want. People want things to be easier. But in doing so, the game will degenerate to that of WoW, EQ2, guildwars and we'll have just another game that people pick up for a 2 or 3 months, max out their character, get bored and quit. I understand there are people (perhaps even the majority of gamers) that don't spend more than an hour a day playing.. For them, well that's why more mainstream games like WoW exist... If Eve is too slow paced for you, try one of them..
I want a game that will be challenging for me 2 years from now. Eve is that game.
Originally by: Scobichevskaya I think CCP gets carried away with this notion of diminition returns. Things get harder and harder to implement/accomplish and reward for the acomplishing them gets disproportionally smaller and smaller,
new staff gets more and more expencive and combersome to build, yet it is lost in 5-10 seconds in a battle.
where is fun in that? Game must be = FUN, not some screwed up random number generator lottery, or hard, full time work of mining, mining and mining, and then some more ICE mining.
get us NPC miners, that can mine for me, why do I have to spend 6-8 hours of time to get 50 seconds of fun ? and pay 75$ for my 5 accounts ?!?!?!?
it ****es me off that I have to spend 30 minutes of my time on each dead spce level to run around in indy (even on Iteron 5 with 5 nanofabrics) and collect all loot while doing lvl 4 security agent, it is NOT FUN, i dont have much time for this, I want to play the game and have fun, not stare at the screen for hours and hours !!!
investing time and effort should make the game easier to play, in reality it gets harder and more time consuming. COMMON CCP, this is the best game in terms of potentials, stop screwing it.
when I think about new players coming in, surprised that some of them actually stay, when people realise that it will take them about 2 years to get to a high level in skills no matter what they do.
The only way to keep ppl in, is to allow to sell/buy already trained accounts, which CCP is "wisely" fights as a sin. Why would I start to pay a game that I can start to enjoy in full in a year or so? When we get a new pilot, we tell him that to get to our region he needs to train MWD and a fast Frigate, and and MWD will take him about 3 weeks, and if he will train Learning first add another week. So WHY in a world would I play a game that will require 3-4 weeks before I can join my Corp mates, besides the fact that I'd be nearly useless still.
So I think the diminishing returns philosophy is very wrong. the rewards must be at least linear.
