You're looking at this from the perspective of a guy who sorta, kinda, maybe likes consoles and not like a businessman.
Historically, big AAA multi-platform games generally do exponentially better on consoles than on PC. There are a few outliers like Portal and things like that, but those have been and still are rare. This does not mean PC game sales are bad. It simply means the majority of these sales have been in favor of consoles.
Now, if you ran Activision, Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, or a big AAA developer that has to answer to shareholders like that and you knew your next, big release would sell 3-4 times as much on each console than on PC, where would you put most of your effort? They don't care that your or my PC is X times as powerful or whatever. They care about sales. They care about data. And the data tells them that the majority of their market is over in console land. They don't care that problem Y can be fixed by porting the game to PC. If it's good enough to sell millions of copies, why should they care?
Listen, I'm not trying to downplay the significance or fun factor of PC gaming. I obviously think it's great. I freaking play Eve and my Steam account is packed with hundredss of games. All I'm trying to get across is people are looking at consoles in the wrong light. Consoles, the people that play them, and the amount of money they bring in is an astounding proportion of the market and to simply dismiss them or their significance would be the same as someone trying to tell you PC gaming is dying. The fact of the matter is, it isn't true.
Also, Skyrim has really only had issues on PS3. The 360 version is fine. CCP nerfed me because my body was too boobylicious. |
