Edited by: Ducat DesFlynne on 22/07/2003 18:21:57 I also like Eve. No, you'll not see my name on more than a couple of posts here. I read, but rarely feel the need to post.
It's been a bit of a bumpy ride since release, but then, I don't remember an MMO that hasn't had a rough release. I can certainly think of several that were much worse. =)
The game balance is slowly but surely shaping up, much faster than I actually expected, though more tweaking is still needed. Constant tweaking and adjusting is an inevitable result of any decently complex game engine, and even the largest Beta tests can't emulate the live environment of a full release.
All in all, I look forward to what the future brings to Eve.

I played in BETA round the clock when my work schedule allowed and still almost 3 months later I still do. I love this game and look forward to what the next couple of months will bring.

Edited by: Koda on 22/07/2003 19:49:21 I love this game too and it's great to see a positive thread.
This is my first MMO. I avoided online gaming until now due to horror stories about hostility toward noobs. Not here. I found a good group to play with who really play as a team.
I have not regretted this purchase one bit. I play so much, my wife refers to EVE as "the other woman." But even she is getting caught up in it and learning to play.
And it's only 2 months into retail! I can't wait to see what's in store. --------------

Been around for two months, and I do have to say, that this is the best MMORPG game made so far.
The game is brought to us unbelivebly proffesional, considering some other MMORPGames after they been on the market for as long as EVE has now... Games such as EQ,E&B,AO,UO, Neocron,WWII and SWG is reallynot even close when it comes to profesionalism.

I haven't been playing as long as some, only since retail release in the UK, but is certainly a game with far more scope than anything else I have experienced. And this thread is encouraging and a refreshing change to the usual negativity.
Oh, and as a side note for all those who may be deterred by the detractors; as long as you accept that there is not much of a safety net in EVE, and what you lose you really do lose, you'll get on fine.
When I lost 3 weeks work due to naivety, carelessness and the harsh realities of the EVE universe, at first I was mortified to the point of not knowing what to do (or even if I wanted to carry on playing). Until I realised that a game that can summon that strength of emotion and plunge me to those depths of despair must be onto something. My loyalty has since been repaid by highs of equal strength.
Long live EVE.

Yeah I love Shattered Galaxy too, never a dull moment in that game. SG is the total opposite of EVE. But the mania for leveling, the lack of chivalry and the extreme sense of competition in SG (some groups don't even like noobies to enter a game they're playing) corroded my interest in SG. Imagine if you're a level 12 player fighting an over level 50 player.
There is a very wide gap in how people treat newbies in SG compared to EVE.
Another space game I played before for a short while, Allegiance, is another game full of rampant abusive people talking smack. I loved that game---I had some of the most intense online battles in that game---but it (made by Microsoft actually) makes EVE look bugfree in comparison. For those who remember Allegiance, do you still remember the word "stacking"?

Yeah
I love this game too , I cant understand the people who whines , sure the game have bugs but I havent had much problems due to that.
And boring? hell no!
I have been shot down/hunted by all the big pirate corps .. Been into massive battles against respawning 50k pirates , mined my ass off in stripmining operations , trading high end stuff in 0.0 space encountering player pirates , running blockades , been helping n00bs in empire space.
I have done pretty much done everything and I have a BLAST - this is the best game ever!
Nothing beats the sight of a massive fleet floating in space working together!

I have been playing for about 7 weeks. Last night I was happily on a pirate vengeance mission, switching views around my ship as you do on long runs and realised:
1. Two hours had passed
2. This game is totally beautiful.
Joined SWG, left SWG it is nothing compared to this.

Love the game. Bought it 2 weeks after release. Got podded, lost 2 cruisers, got held up at jumpgates (I only have 341,322 isk I SWEAR), hasn't set me back a bit.

I think this game rocks. I have been playing for 2 months now. In that time I have slowly mined my way up to a cruiser (Which I lost after owning it for 1 night), Thanks Orvolle blockade people. I am glad to see this thread rather than the usual gripes and whinges.

"Other than "annoing", I have never heard of any of you. You all must be new. If you haven't been nerfed or lagged or lost you Character yet it will only be a matter of time. It's funny I see where there is a link to the old Forums, the last ones were 1 month after release. Other than Lord Zap almost none of those same people are even posting anymore. I'm assuming they have gone on to bigger and better things."
i've been following this game since probably around late 99 all i know is when i heard about this game it was supposed to take full advantage of the best video card out at that time the geforce 2 :) . the community of eve is made up of alot more people then those you see on these forum, or in IRC. I love this game for many reasons and i will continue to love it till the dev's thoroughly screw me over.

This game rocks.
Unlike some people have suggested, ive been playing this game since release and in beta as well, and I have always thought that it RULES. Yes, even after losing a bestower and a cruiser (fully loaded with my best gear) and a cruiser skill to boot, I still think the game owns.
On the other hand, yes I have moved on to something better than posting here. How about playing EVE!? XD

So true...... my first MMORPG and i'm utterly hooked. I'm averaging 5hrs sleep a night, the bags under my eyes now carry a Samsonite label, I have been out (socially) maybe 3 times since i got this game and i spent the evenings checking my watch and trying to work out when my skills will finish training.
I've stopped eating properly instead opting for "meal in a can" supplement drinks..... but i have my cruiser....hehe

Edited by: Xtreme Wrath on 23/07/2003 16:51:10 Started playing on day one of retail in the U.S.... Thought to myself "I wonder if this will be better than Earth and beyond?" LMAO.. I havent looked back since and as a matter of fact cancelled my E&B account to boot!
As has been repeatedly said here.. nice to hear from normal happy gamers as opposed to the whining Carebears/Griefers (Notice I left out PIRATE? True Pirates are essential to the game)

Just a post to say that I too love this game. I get to play perhaps 10 hours a week, sometimes in 30 minute segments, other times for a full hour. I've played a few other online games (EQ was longest) but its hard to do much in a lot of games as group activites are needed a lot, and with short time you cannot work well with the same people.
This game is different - we all level up at decent speeds (skill training), and equipment can come from friends, pirates or trading - must have made about 15 million in 6 weeks. Got my first cruiser, and loving the game. Plenty of room for improvement - all games have that. But Eve has the capacity to become a game I play for the next 5 years. Which would make it one of the truly great online games.
To those who complain about bugs - all released games have bugs, hardware issues etc - every single one I own, offline especially, has several patches.

This is certainly a marvel of a game, and to think that there is so much more to come.
The potential is massive. Very good to see ppl take time to reply to this post.
Lets hope some facets of the game do not fade .... PvP

This game is evil. Its all I think about at work, I dream about playing it when asleep all the rest of my free time I play it. My wife is wondering who Eve is and why I keep saying her name in my sleep. Other than that it ROCKS
