ok, so on the controle tower activation range....250km is about the max i can ever expect my guns to fire since they will not fire until the control tower's activation range is reached reguardless of the gun's actual range (if gun's range is greater than 250km with/without bonuses)? or am i mistaken here

tested medium pos on testserver.. not sure if that is the same thing as on the real server but the medium pos did attack me at 300 and the torpedos did go 350 km.
now they only fired a few times and i could get close to the pos without getting shot again..until i fired on pos and then goth killed
gooing to test smal soon
ooh and those torps did alot of dmg, but so did the large beams

ok tested smal. was at 400k from pos and went closer.. at 349k the torpedo launcher started to attack me
so atleast on the testserver the weapon decides at what range you wil be attacked as the 250 k from pos info doesnt apply on the testserver
can somone verifie this on the real server ? mayby i try to find somone with a smal pos and try it out with a alt

honestly its a rather moot point if you attack the pos in force.
on a small tower a group of 10 can kill it in less than an hour, on a medium 2-3 hours. However they do have to tank the damage to be able to do it in this time as this is at close range ie < 30km.
A large pos properly set up is at this point in time unkillable, due to the amount of shields and the powergrid allows for a large number of large and medium guns ect ect, making it untankable. A large improperly set up takes a huge number of ships to put it into reinforced mode.
when dreads arrive, it is unsure just how the large pos will fare.

well you are supposed to starve the POS, not shoot it down. Probably
You can boost the range on ships with logistics support. So you can fire outside of pos range.
Dreds will make a difference. But of course that goes both ways. We can buy 1 dread for the corp and park it at what ever POS needs immediate support
