Why is there not a fine for littering? The people that own the cans left everywhere should be charged a fine every two hours based on the system's amount of traffic. That way, if you can afford to leave a can there, go for it. I don't think these should be small fines either, but maybe I am the only one sick of looking at cans everywhere.

Screw the fines ! Make the Cans Require maintence to remain in space. If you leave it with out returning to it for a certain period of time (Like a week) make it self destruct like a normal container.
This would get rid of the Clutter in EvE No problems. |

bad idea for both miners and my eve graveyard - the biggest cause of lag in eve is people doing missions near gates and not picking up their loot - increase the number of agents in all systems and don't have missions next to gate or asteroid belts

Who mentioned lag ?
Its about getting rid of stupid cans that say Blood Raiders were Owned here or speedway rings etc.. Its about getting rid of the cans that serve no purpose at all. If you want to leave a marker You would have to maintain it to keep it there ! Ah not that it matters now, cos Secure cans have alot less HP's as of tomorrow ! (Which was a much needed improvement)
/me breaks out the Megapulses and Finally Roams EvE Destroying annoying cans ! |

The main problem here is that you can drop cans without anchoring them that you can't or other people can't pick up. You cannot anchor cans in 0.9 or 1.0 space yet people get away with it by either using non-secure cans or by simply jettisoning the can - hence no anchoring is needed - in a way it is a bug/exploit. Simply make it so that you can only anchor secure cans and that all other cans are collectable by any player - then increase the price of secure cans or increase the skills needed to anchor them - at the moment you only need to learn anchoring 1 to anchor any can - make it anchor 1 for small secure anchor 2 for large secure - anchor 3 for huge - and anchor 4 for giant - then introduce a super can for anchor 5 that will hold the equivalent of a full cargo on an iteron V - similarly change the sizes of cans so that you need an iteron I for a small can, and iteron II for a large can, and so on but each can holds slightly more than the cargo hold of the iteron in question - then you can introduce cans for different ship types/races. It is about to become pointless having secure cans in losec space when the main problem is cans in secure space because you can't blow them up at all.

I just thought it out - keep containers as they are except clearing up the bug of not being able to pick containers up in space that are not anchored - but make the skill training on the number of containers you are allowed to anchor at any one time - so anchor 1 means you can anchor only 1 container (but also introduce an advance anchoring skill so the max containers possible is 10 and no more) - keeps everyone happy

as commented on elsewhere, these cans (and vacant ships) are a traffic hazard. Further, they can be used by gankers to increase your travel time to gate and thus their window of opportunity to hit you from 125 km with their Mega Pulse IIs.
So, let's have the sentry guns destroy all such cans, and vacant ships, within 10km of any station or gate.
Firing should begin 100 minutes after the can/ship is left there, to allow for normal recovery of items from dead ships, etc.
