Just chatting about anti-missile tactics... and I just had a thought...
How about making ECM affect missiles too... If you ECM jam them they just turn dumbfire so they explode where they THINK you are. You would have to ECM and then change direction to get optimum protection that way.
Would add a bit more to the tactics side I think. -------------------------------------------

Neat Idea. It makes me wonder how it currently works. Does a missile keep it's own target lock or does it rely on the target lock of the person who launched it?
And how about drones and ECM burst? Do drones keep their own targets? Can they be jammed? If drones cannot be jammed it might give an interesting alternative to fighting against a pure EW ship.

yeah... that's another neat idea.
ECM seems to be a greatly underused facility atm... especially for the Amarr as their mid slots are pretty weak...
I think there should be high power ecm units out there too that generate higher ecm fields but suck a lot of juice and/or CPU. -------------------------------------------

Once a missile is fired at you it will continue to follow you even after the missile-firer has met his maker.

I cannot speak for the missiles, but the drones have separate targeting systems. They need only have the initial command to attack a target. In some cases, if they are pre-deployed, they attack in defense of the owner. This only seems to happen if the drone is idle and a new target lock is made on the controller and an attack is made.
Anyways, the concept of using ECM against drones does make sense.
Using ECM against missiles should work against Auto Targeting and Torpedoes. Good Idea!

drones already have sensor strengths, so maybe ECM already works on them? (i don't know as i've never tried) It would make a great target for a fast frigate with an ECM burst :D

Friend of mine told me a funny story last night... seemed he shot down a drone operator and the drones kept after him even though the drone operator was vapour... he only just got away from them intact heh
Guess he didnt have a smartbomb... -------------------------------------------
