Doriam II was, as mentioned earlier, the most peaceful Emperor in the history of the Amarr. The fact that he has now become also the first to be assassinated in 2,000 years will no doubt be used by opponents of his to argue that his methods were weak, and have left them vulnerable.
Wouldn't the title of most peaceful emperor go to Heideran VII? Considering that Dorium just launched a crusade...

How interesting for the Amarr.
The only downside to this is all the conspiricy theories that will pop up.

Yes, 'cause heaven forbid the wholesale slaughter of millions on a planet assult dosn't constitute a casus bali for war.

Perhaps "most peaceful" was a poor choice of words. However, it is clear that the war was very much a departure from Doriam II's past behaviour. The recent action against the Bloods aside, I believe my point still stands. Note also that Doriam was criticised by many Amarrians for choosing a distinctly Gallentean approach of proportional response, rather than a traditional Amarrian show of force.

The Empire still stands.
The Emperor Family must have been infiltrated for someone to gain access to the Emperor. I might return to their employment to see the extent of the infiltration for myself.

What will happen now?
Here's a possible future for you all: The Theology council expedites it's release of the Tetrimon analysis and a new Imperial authority arises claiming these scriptures as gospel. Sarum family and other reclaimers will fall in line and not question the new Emperor because of his/her taking the Empire back to traditional roots. The population will be feeling empty in light of recent events and thirst for revenge.
In short; The Amarrians will hate their slaves and seek a target to vent their frustrations on. If the new Emperor has any intent in this; im fairly sure I'll be seeing the Amarr Navy spilling over into Minmatar space and bombing their planets in Jyhad. Whomever assasinated Doriam II will now create a tide of hatred upon outside influences and sufficient xenophobic paranoia that will most likely fall on the backs of the slaves.
As for the assassin? I doubt very much of this being from an external source. If you're looking for a scapegoat I doubt it's within the religious or advisory council. This coup probably came from the military. I would urge Police forces to look into the whereabouts of the Vice Admiral who lead the final assault on the Blood Raider covenant. You may or may not find him in Delve.

How can you compare the thinning of livestock herds to the death of an Amarrian?

The Caldari Independent Navy Reserve wishes to express its condolences to the Amarr state and people in this time of tragedy.
We hope that those guilty of committing this abhorent crime will be brought to justice and will endevour to support all the efforts of our own state to assist the Amarr in this time of crisis.
Although we Caldari are not used to the idea of the state being embodied in the leadership of a single individual we can never-the-less empathise with the Amarr people in their sense of loss.

We of the Ushra'Khan note the death of the emperor Doriam II and have watched with some bemusement the eulogies to his reign.
Doriam was a disaster for the Amarr empire and indeed for all peoples. Just look back at the major points of his reign:
1. the use by his son of a cathedral for orgies demeaning the religion of which he is supposed to be head demonstrating the decadence and decay of Amarr society;
2. the use of drugs to passify Amarr society and further enslave our people;
3. the inability to keep Amarr space lanes clear of freedom fighters such as ourselves, who daily become bolder and stronger in taking our fight for our brothers and sisters freedom to the empire;
4. the disastrous loss of life from the actions of the Blood Inquisition.
Given this history we can only imagine the scenes of joy in Amarr households that they will have a new Emperor and the first would perhaps explain why his pleas for help and mercy before his assassin went unanswered.
For ourselves there is sorrow for the lives lost during this reign and those which will be wasted as a result of the death of this incompetent. No doubt the empires security services will seek revenge for their failings and with their usual stupidity, scapegoat innocent and defenceless Minmatar who are enslaved within the empire. We warn them now such actions will not be tolerated and penance will be exacted. Candidates will vie to claim they can keep the empire safe through military repression and the dehumanising of those they claim the right to own and again we warn them of the danger of such demagoguery
Our message to the subjects of the empire and the candidates is that you cannot be kept safe through military might. We of the Ushra'Khan are here and we will remain. If you wish to sleep safe and live free from fear the solution is simple - free all those you keep as slaves. Return them safe to the Minmatar Republic and you will find our hands outstretched as friends. If any of the great houses wish to take up this offer separate to the empire they may rely on our support, our ships and lives in defence of any reprisals from the empire. http://www.gigo.demon.co.uk/eve/sigs/tano_sig_smak5_raven.gif |

Most of you know I was not a friend of Doriam II. I am not mourning. But I am not here to blame a dead man. I am here to repeat my very last statement concerning him I have made when he was still alive: he had my respect.
This was not always so. Not in my wildest dreams I've thought I would ever make such a statement at the time he became Emperor. Kudos to those who deserve it. In his time as Emperor he stopped freeing slaves. He did not recognized the Minmatar Republic as a souvereign state. His determination to protect the Amarr Empire came as a pleasant surprise for many Amarrians. The way he crushed the Blood Raiders was unprecedented. I never recognized him as Gods chosen one but I say the Amarr Empire lost a good man. May his death open the way for a even greater leader.
I can only hope the next succession will not be a democratic influenced succession. I can only hope the next succession will not bring an udorian Emperor. A non-amarrian ruling Gods chosen people would be a crime against God. The examination of the Tetrimon scriptures must come to an end and make their results public before the next succession to extinguish all doubts. Most of all I hope this will bring an end to the seperation of the Kingdom and the Empire.

What spin machine? I took what you said directly in context and merely offered a correction to your correction. Albeit a bit of a sarcastic one, but that's just my nature =).
I'm merely saying that considering the circumstances we can't really say that what Dorium did was not peaceful. He brought peace to a region ruled so long by pirates.
If that's not a peaceful action, I don't know what is. -----------------------------------

I admit that i was a bit shocked when i heard this news, but in retrospect it isn't that much of a surprise i guess. To the Amarr he was too pacifist and weak, most Gallente and Matari i have talked to saw him as not much better than any other slave driver. I can't give you any Caldari opinions since i don't seek much contact to them, but to me it seems that he had no real supporters, every side saw him as leaning too far in the other's direction.
It will be interesting to see the empire's reaction but i don't have any high expectations... All i can say for sure is that i have a drone bay full of ass kicking for anyone hostile towards the Federation or our Matari friends.

I would say that those of you who are rejoicing at a blow to the Amarr Empire will find that whoever replaces Doriam will not be in the same mold as he was.
I might even go as far to say that today died the last hope for God's word to spread in a peaceful manner.
I do beleive that this act will herald the begging of a war the likes of which has never been seen. And I dont believe that It will result in the Empire reforming in any way.
Look to your defenses, for only God knows what carnage will develop from this.
Nobiscum Deus! Ave Doriam II! |
