This is... stunning, to say the least. My Amarrian history isn't very good, but hasn't it been a very, very long time since a sitting Amarrian Emperor was successfully assassinated? Also, doesn't doing so amount to the greatest sin in the Amarrian religion?
I just hope the Imperial Government isn't trying to pin this on the Republic or the Federation prematurely. The closing of the gates is... disappointing. ____________________________________ Justice is the only thing I have left. The lives of thousands be damned. |

I know; schadenfreude is a terrible thing. But the Exotic Dancers, Janitors and Slaves (that's "undocumented immigrants", to you) are having a party in my hangar that has to be seen to be believed. I fear for my supply of specialty spirits.
I fear that I'll be needing them soon myself.

Surely the Minmatar would be upset that the most peaceful Emperor in the history of the Amarr was just assassinated? The next Emperor will for sure, not be as forgiving. --------

Perhaps true "Enslaver", but on a symbolic level, the Emperor is Amarr and everything that it stands for -- including the hateful, destestable and inhumane practice of slavery.

This is from the galactic news:
Quote: Stunning news has just filtered out of the Amarr Empire. Doriam II, Emperor of Amarr, is dead at the hands of an unknown assailant.
Details are still sketchy at this moment, but the Emperor's death has just been confirmed by the Imperial Chancellor's Office. The Privy Council has been called together to sit in emergency session.
This is from chapter four of Hamish Saga, near the end, written months ago:
Quote: Istvaan leaned forward over his cup, inhaling the vapours thoughtfully. His words took on a portentous gravity. ôThere is a great schism coming in the Empire of the Amarr. I do not foresee this Emperor remaining in power much longer.
How did you know ?

Edited by: Andre Ricard on 05/07/2005 02:06:11 Just to note, a little research does seem to confirm that the last time a sitting Amarrian Emperor died due to non-natural causes was two thousand years ago, with the infamous Zaragram II (arguably the only Emperor to have ever earned his assassination.) This is quite major, then.
But again, I say: do not point the finger of blame at your neighbors too soon, Amarr. We have nothing to gain from killing your Emperor. In fact, I would remind you that your Navy has been shooting at someone for the past few weeks. I would begin a search along that line, if anywhere.
Yes, see above. ____________________________________ Justice is the only thing I have left. The lives of thousands be damned. |

And isn't it funny that this happened on GH-SC's birthday? Right after Istvaan posted
The extent of this involvement has been known by most anyone who matters for a while now (at least everyone I know)....it doesn't leave me in any awe or respect of your abilities. Or his. *shrugs*

No one deserves that fate. Nevertheless, the Amarr now have a magnificent opportunity to reform their so-called empire into a modern, peaceful and just state, earning and enjoying the respect of all the peoples of the world.
The reality, however, is that those Amarrians who have grown fat off the labor and suffering of slaves and the perpetuation of superstition and ignorance are still too firmly entrenched. We're certain to see more of the same arrogant and pompous nonsense we've always seen out of Amarr.

Of course, I do smell war brewing. Gallente/Minmatar vs. Caldari/Amarr. OOO, can you feel the tension? I love controversy. The only good Amarrian is a dead one anyway. There are exceptions but not many.

I find it difficult to believe that the Amarrians will have anything but revenge on their minds in the near future. In addition, I do not believe this is much of an opportunity for reform. Doriam II was, as mentioned earlier, the most peaceful Emperor in the history of the Amarr. The fact that he has now become also the first to be assassinated in 2,000 years will no doubt be used by opponents of his to argue that his methods were weak, and have left them vulnerable.

Upon reading this announcement in the Galnet News, I'm struck with a feeling of disbelief, and a feeling of sadness for the people of the Amarr Empire.
When I lost my parents at the age of ten to the very same fate, at our family home on Duripant III, I could not express in words the sense of horror, sadness and depression by which I was overcome.
I can sympathise fully with the people of the Empire in this period of mourning for their loss, of what is essentially their father, in their family home.
My deepest regret is that this outrageous act of disgusting violence was ever allowed to take place.
I sincerely hope that the Empire apprehends those responsible, and they face the full justice and penalty of the Imperial legal system.
This atrocity has obviously struck the heart of the Empire, godspeed and the best of luck to the Imperial Navy, and all Amarr loyalist organisations in the search for the perpitrator of this vile and barbaric act.
I never, for once in my entire life thought I would utter these words.
AMARR VICTOR!
Bring this scum to justice.

Ozymandias
I met a traveler from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read, Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed, And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.
Ancient poem from earth.
Let the tides of change commence!
