Some sort of single shot probe, fired from a scan probe launcher, that goes through the gate, and gives a reading on shiptypes within a certain range of the gate, could be pretty cool. Perhaps probe strength would dictate the accuracy of the ships on the other side, varying from Tengu, to Caldari Strategic cruiser, to Cruiser, to Medium ship or even just 'Ship' would be pretty cool.
Paying for something like this with Aurum is bad. Just charge for it with isk. it WOULD be pay to win with aurum.

I have a better idea, how about you pay REAL LIFE CASH to actually make yourself invincible and everyone else who comes within 5 systems of you get so nerfed they stop due to engine falure, lose all cap, ALL of their modules go off-line and they cant log out. This would be fun wouldn't it?

I already have 2 of the types of drones the OP mentions. One is my alt scout, the other are these things I call "flesh and blood people I made Friends with".
"Gate Scouting Drones" would simply be more -single player stuff in a multiplayer game- and wouldn't even be a good idea for CCP as it would mean fewer subscriptions (who needs an alt scout when you can simply use your drone bay?).

To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors.
If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I had this revelation yesterday, while flying my <900k SP, no-implant alt around HiSec in a noobship. WTF am I flying for... this clone is worthless, I can just podjump everywhere I need to be! It's nice not having to worry about replacing implants or upgrading that disposable clone! |

Say what you wish, but so far Eve seems to have a decent balance that is not pay to win.
This community also seems to hold the game company more accountable to possible crud than other game communities. And, unlike other companies at least appear at least act on any major community anger.
As far as alts/ multiboxing - that is on EVERY MMO. If someone wants that playstyle of an RTS and wants to run 5 or more accounts while paying a huge subscription (or PLEXING with a semi-afk miner guy) so be it. Not my cup of tea, but I could see the draw of controling my own private fleet and having multiple playstyles to draw from. |
