After being sat in the Help channel since patch I couldn't help but notice the number of players moaning about the chat font. I couldn't understand why cos as far as I can see it looks absolutely great.
Look at the below screenshots of the 3 different sizes of the chat font and if you don't see these then maybe, just maybe something on your install isn't quite right.
I've circled the 3 different sizes icon so you can tell which is which.

Yep looks 100% great. With the intensity and frequency that people are complaining about the chat font, I am beginning to think that there is some bug on ppls clients that make only their chat font look bad...cuz on my end it looks VERY nice. Like, so nice that its not even an opinion, but a fact.
I am really confused by the number of ppl saying how hard the font is to read and how bad it looks etc...I just dont get it.
On a side note, the new voice ISENT **THAT** bad... do people just have a big exageration problem or osmething in EVE or what? Seems like they go overboard...

Yep I quite like the new font, i was having some trouble when i first logged on after the patch but I reset all my graphics options to default and did a bit more tweaking. It is MUCH easier to read now

Edited by: Lufio II on 06/07/2005 11:17:47 it is quite blurry (when using the med sized fonts) and having to look at it for a longer while (several hours that is) is actually kind of tiresome for my eyes.
Don't know if it's just an issue with TFT Displays, as most people I've seen complaining have been using those.
I personally use the native resolution of my display (1920*1200 when full screen) and the text is still very blurry for a TFT. The not bolded small font is sharp, but way too small in that resolution...

The problem is when you have portraits enables too. Before, the text was all kept to the right-hand side of the screen. Now it gets shoved under the portraits, which makes it look confusing. _________

Have to agree as well.
Spent all day at work reading how bad the font was, how large it was, wondering what the hell i was going to see when i finally patched and logged in.... and its fine. what are people on about ? On the smallest setting it is perfect.
And while Im here, the new computer voice is fine too.

as I said earlier, the smallest setting is way too small in 1920*1200, even with a 24" Screen the letters are somewhere 2 or 3mm high, which is NOT really readable without tiring your eyes....

He has the same problem as me, I run the game at 1600x1200 so I can tab+alt without having to change resolutions to desktop however the font looks like crap. I figured, turn it to small, it will look better. It looks better, but I have to hold a magnifying glass to see anything =/ I just like the old one better.

Heh amazing what a little bit of feedback does instead of saying "the font sucks, change it back now".
Will try higher resolution when TQ is back up, maybe then some light will be shed on the issue. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

I run 1600x1200 and the new small font is more readable than the old one. I don't really like it though, it doesn't match the rest of the UI's font any more.

So this is 'I like the changes' thread? Well I do not like the font, it's tiresome for my eyes to stare at that one, and I do not like the new 'stoned' voice, makes me sleepy. Different people - different opinions. But if we consider that 90% of the posters do not like the new voice and font then 'I love the changes' group is a minority.

No it's a "I can't see what's wrong with the chat font thread, lets find out why some are saying it's so bad and not just rant about it".
Seems it's not too hot at higher resolution. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

i'd rather have a medium shaded grey. When I use overbright on my monitor (necessary for most games) white is just too damn bright. it bleeds, it burns my eyes.
It's not that deep, I'll get use to it. I wish CCP would give us an option to change font color on our end though. ________

Yep I see what the problem is now, higher than 1280x1024 and the font becomes hazy, unsharp and difficult to read.
Window mode is slightly better but not much. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

See, that's what we were talking about, but I'm sure it's just a plot by CCP tofind out how many people are actually using such high resolutions

seems fine to me in 1600x1024 windowed.
I think people are just making a kneejerk reaction to changes in the interface we've all spent far too many hours staring at.
Of course it looks odd. Give it as many hours as you've played previously and I'm sure everyone will get used to it.
It's not like it's gonna change back, so we may as well :D

It's the formating I can't stand.
I mean:
[Image] [Image] [Image]Text here followed by an even worse section of text here just looks so, so, awful.
for example.

Then turn the portraits off in the chat window, more space for text then ;)

Each to their own, personally, I've always hated portraits in the left pane of the chat window and so hadn't even noticed that this implementation had changed.

I don't have a problem with the font in Med or Large size. But in small it just looks bad to me and strains my eyes.
I think the bigger problem for me is that the entire "chat" system just seems clunky and chunky to me now. I like the fact that you can bold, underline, italicize but just in general, the chat seems more difficult to use to me.
