I first off want to say that this isn't a thread about missile lauchers costing too much power. I just have a simple question. Why did CCP change the game so you could no longer undock with modules that overtaxed your ship's powergrid, even when the item(s) are offline? It was not the case before the patch, and that change ( As far as I've read ) was not in the patch notes anywhere. Can someone explain this to me, please? I really liked the notion of being able to switch on and off modules for varying circumstance, like trading power from weapons to armor repairers after a battle. I thought the system was well implemented, using large amounts of cap to bring a module online in space. Just gave ships more possibilities, as well as the very realistic ( I think. ) feel of having to shunt power to varying systems as needed. Anyway, if someone knows the answer, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

Edited by: Sobeseki Pawi on 07/07/2005 06:16:50 I can only speculate, but it may have something to do with the Siege Module on Dreads.
Also, the offlining of 'passive' mods (like expanders) probably had a hand in it.

Alas, such annoying change; have to rethink my perfect support ship setup now.
Although isn't as evil as the 'fix' to smartbomb activation distance..
Adapt and live..

I have noticed this change aswell.
Leaves me with one question: what is the purpose of having a module off-line.
If it has no purpose, pls remove the online/offline option for a module. |

Oh noes you aren't going to be able to do your smartbombing mega with 7 stabs setup anymore?
I'm so sad for you.

Edited by: Autumnleaves on 07/07/2005 15:13:54 keep in mind, the new grid requirements for missles made a few races popular designs unflyable as they typically were fitted.
since a far larger % of the pop don't read the boards this change has the benefit of avoiding a large number of petitions post patch "I went to a level x mission and got creamed cause yer ^%@#$@!$^!@&*$@! buggy patch did something and none of my guns/missles would fire cause they were perma-offline. FIX ASAP YOU ^*@$!)^%$!@# !!!!" etc etc etc
at least now everyone got a free warning there setups were not valid before going into combat.

you can actual fit a small ship with BS Gun, they can't be online ofcourse, but you can be in space with them .... think about Exode from empire space and you get the point :p

Another thing people are/were doing is overfitting their ships.
turn off two mods and now they can fit a MWD.
MWD with said over fitted setup to needed location.
warp to safespot.
deactivate MWD.
activate battle setup without MWD nerf.
engage.
Personally I don't have a problem with it being they are dvoting one slot to an inactive module or two at time of engagement.
It allowed some versatility without docking to change fittings being out in 00 there isn't always that option to dock and refit.

X'Alor, i always though that MWD penalties are passive. So even if you are not running it or its not online, your cap still get busted. who in his right mind would do this?

Try sitting 70km away from a gate, waiting for some t1 frig to try and tackle you, blowing him up (with 7 officer/faction smartbombs with 7.5km range), and then safespotting if a tier 3 cruiser comes. Takes amazing skills.

Its the matter of tactic and well designed set-up Faction\officer smartbombs are also pretty expensive so wcs`s are way to go. But.. by the end of the day kills\losses count is quite good I assume

they did this cause with the old system you could transport modules using the inactive slots.
i.e. a thrasher could hold 8 probe launchers full loaded (all offline) giving it an effective 800 m3 probe cargo.
also you could transport large guns on a ceptor.
(looks really funny)
i miss it, but i can see why they fixed it. It was kinda exploit imo.

me 2 me 2. A claw with 4x1400mm Howitzers looks just obscene, lol.
But if this is now the case, you think they can drop the 95% cap requirement for activation of modules? And I wonder what happens if you alter your setup at a POS ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

It's a stupid way to fix it then. Why not simply not allow oversized modules to be installed in the first place, i.e., no cruiser weapons on a frigate? Post-patch, I hopped in my Moa, only to discover I didn't have enough power for my two launchers. So instead of just having one offline, I had to remove it and put in the cargohold. How dumb is that??!!

stupid change imo. if the problem was moving oversized modules like that then just dont allow it to fit oversized modules. and if the problem was about moving probes around then dont allow them to be loaded while offline. boom problem solved.

'Cause then they'd have to also write workaround code for the modules they give back to the frigate lobby, like oh I dunno, Cruise Launchers...

Another unmentioned side effect of this fix...
I fly a Raven, which of course is a shield tank. Occasionally it takes armour damage (actually FREQUENTLY it takes armour damage since the *! missile nerf - don't get me started) which I need to repair...it used to be I could just offline some launchers, fit two Large Armour reps and launch. Now it won't let me, so I have to strip out the launchers totally, and the ammo...it's just a pain.
Cynical question: did CCP introduce this so more people would use station repair services as it's less bother? ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

Nope, this has nothing to do with topic at hand. It was introduced to counter T2 gun fitting requirements and to (partially) counter insane increases in launcher fitting requirements.
