This should maybe have been a pertition, but I can't run Eve long enough to send the pertition. So i'm trying here.
My Computer is freezing wile running Eve, after this last patch.
My computer setup: ----------- Cpu: AMD 1700+ (1466Mhz - not clocked, ever) MB: MSI K (I know "Missing Something Inside") Gc: Asus 6800 Ultra Ti4600 (Nvidia - Not clocked ever) RAM: 1024MB (133Mhz - Apache) Latest D-x (9.0c) Latest Gc drivers (77.72) Windows XP Pro (SP1) -----------
Well back to the problem; When this last patch was releast i downloaded and patched it manualy, even on the introduction video my computer froz... I couldn't do scvop. I had one option, the resett-button. Well i got my computer up again, cheaked all application-logs in Windows, but nothing. started Eve again, and skiped the intro-video, got to the login-screen were I choose my dear charater, and it froz. Well so be it, I downloaded the hole eve installation and installed a new fresh game, with no cache, and nothing "extra". It should help out, as support are saying. Well it still crashed on the intro-video, it still crashes on the login screen. But to a big supprice, I'm getting into the game for like 5-8 min and it freezes. When i'm ingame, everything runs fine untill it freez. It can be in warp, in station, out in space doing nothing, the short version, everywhere... It just freez, without any warning.
Anyone had any similar problemes or is it just me ... or to be presis "my computer" that might be realy f******* up??

That used to happen to my laptop when exodus was first released, I petitioned it but couldn't work out what was the problem. Then after 2 months eve started to work again, no idea why.

Well... I dont like the idee of "quiting" eve for two months, and try it then. If it comes to that, I wont intall it again. The I have nothing to complain about. Dozar Klingz

Edited by: Nyphur on 09/07/2005 02:27:21 This is a longshot but try disabling AGP Read, AGP Write and AGP Fastwrite on your graphics card. I'm not familiar with NVidia's control software but the option should be there somewhere.
And it goes without saying to get the latest drivers, usually, but I've heard so many horrible thing about Nvidia's latest driver set breaking all kinds of games that you should get the version that came out before the latest ones just in case. If you have the latest ones, that might be your problem.

I'll try, but I used the 72.something driver before the patch came. I installed the latest graphic driver after a few tries on thoes "old drivers", but it's still the same. Dozar Klingz

Nope that didnt help, i've turned off AGP Write and Read. I've allso tryed turning of Antialiasing, Anitotropic, Vertical sync and lowered all graphic setting ingame to a minimum. I've tryed in 1024*768, 1280*960 and 1280*1024 fullscreen, and in window-mode, but no. It still freezes
But thanks for the trying Nyphur Dozar Klingz

aye something with the new graphics is bugged I have a nvidia 6800 and a dual opteron system with 2 gigs of ram and I get insane lag, and my FPS is lower. I personally belive its something to do with the LOD system they put in

Yes, it's definately tied to the unasked for LOD 'improvments' to something that was not patently broken, or promised but never implemented...
Supposedly they're going to give us the ability to limit or disable the new LOD changes, but I have yet to see it.

Latest update: Well now I've reinstalled my frelling Windows. I formated the computer, installed all drivers, got the latest of couse. And installed Eve, one more time, without copying back my cache-file back, just the basic Eve. And geuss what...
I'm still freezing
So now I want CCP or there support dipartment to mail me or something, couse i can't play Eve anymore. And if I can't play, why should I have an active acctount I can't use??
PS: yes I know this is a bit out of normal procedures, but as I've said. I can't play long enough to pertions this. |

Another area to explore is your CPU/GPU/Case temperatures under heavy load conditions. Are these normal?

Yeap they are all normal. I got an AMD CPU and it dosent come over 60*C. I've tried athoer games, and the computer works just fine. It's onlywhen I'm running Eve.

Have you tried putting eve into win98 compatibility mode?
Just right click the icon, click properties, compatiblity and set it to win98. This sorted out eve freezing for me.

Since you're still on SP1 it might be worth installing SP2. Also running memtest on your ram would be useful, just to rule out faulty memory.

Bet you anything you like EVE will run perfectly with version 66.93. It's a very old driver but when a game doesn't work for me I change to them old ones and it always works. My latest issue was with Guild Wars (yes I know), and before that Starwars Republic Commando (yes I KNOW). They were freezing at seemingly random points just like you're describing - installed 66.93 and problems went away.
Seriously if that doesn't work for you I'll eat my hat.

Yeah i get exactly the same problem 6600GT witht he latest drivers, courtesy of BF2, l think the 77. are at fault. Never had a problem with the 72.
Thankfully my problem is occasional.
