I've taken quite a break from EVE. Exodus lured me back. Now that I am potentially starting from scratch, I am curious about is whether or not I can successfully live out my EVE career in a frigate?
Are there enough skills/mods to make this a viable option or is it a requirement to graduate to larger vessels to be successful in EVE?
Sure I am interested in venturing beyond the safe sectors of space, participating in PVE and PVP combat, and completing difficult agent missions. But is this at all possible if I only train for frigates?

My opinion would be quite simply no, but with enough training you can get to Assault Frigs and these you can make a living with .

Frigs are very good for pvp, they work for pve also, although you will probably make more money with a BS, but then again, you wont need as much money as BS pilots to replace losts ships etc.

A tech2 frigate character is very viable in both pvp and pve. The only issue you might have is earning your living with a frigate sized vessel. You might consider training up indutrial ships and doing some trading of player goods, which looks to become more viable soon due to the removal of highways. _______________________________________________

frigates are the most fun ship class in the game now . the tech 2 ones that is . especially now your not 1 hit poped by a torp spammer . if u want too just have a blast with eve then frigates are the way too go . and a cleverly set up cruiser is fun too . for the ordinarey player in eve
the power gamers will allways have the edge in equipment . but for the normal 4 hour a night player . frigates are the way too go .

Hell yes.. some peopole out there with 30m+ sp spend most of their time in frigates.
Normal frigates are still quite useful because of their low cost.. but if you specialize in frigates and decide to fly an interceptor, assault frigate, bomber, etc.. you can be quite useful for everything.
Don't expect to do as much PvE in frigates as you would a BS but it's still not impossible to kill a few NPC battleships with an assault frigate or interceptor.
As a battleship pilot Assault Frigates and Interceptors are my weakness. I have a hell of a time killing you and most of the time in a fleet battle you're the only reason I lost my ship in the fight. ________

The answer is, definitely. Yesterday, on my first attempt in an AF, I took out a 4/10 Serpentis-Phi complex. Breaking the tank on the 2.5m BS at the end took a while, but it is possible. 4 mil ISK 4tw, sadly no uber drops.
Also, cruise missiles were hitting me for 9.6 damage, which gives you an indicator of where you would be vs. any missile boat out there, in pvp.
So frig specialists may yet find themselves further elevated in status on the battlefield. Until they get nerfed.

Very much so.
For solo money earning, you can do missions with an AF or with an inty. The missile nerf makes it hard for an NPC cruiser or battleship to hit you even with missiles. Unless you got webbed and their turrets are trained on you. Inties are even more viable now after the patch due to "sig tanking". Signature tanking literally reduces the damage done against you by turrets and missiles.
At the same time, small missiles are not affected by the patch. Just after the patch, using inty l4 skills, I am doing 118 dmg off my Bloodclaws from my Crow when people are whining hitting targets for 30 to 50 damage with a torpedo. I expect my damage and effectivity to rise when I get the new missile skills.
Using fast ships, deadspace L3 missions can be cleared in a relatively quick time. I often do it with nothing more than an inty with AB2 or Cold Gas. Using an AB, you retain the inty's naturally low sig radius, which helps in sig tanking. Naturally I also have high navigation skills and speed implants in my head. L3 missions cannot make as much money as as L4 missions, but if you have a fast turnover on the missions, and get to collect and sell named loot in the market, you can still make millions and have a ball doing it.
For L4 missions, you can sell out your services as a support ship for clearing NPC frigates off your companions.
About a month or two ago I hanged up my battleships even before the patch came, and went with inties, assaults and heavy asssaults. The HACs I reserve for those situations where a T2 frigate simply cannot do the job. I am more than rich enough not to depend on L4 missions anymore and I don't have ambitions to earn another big fat ship like a dreadnaught. To tell you the truth, living with frigs is a blast, you really enjoy the speed, the pace, and the action.

And large ships are slow and lumbering, which really kills the appeal for me regarding them. I just got up to a battlecruiser and found out who dammned slow they are even with the speed/agility skills up. I think I will fly nothing larger and will train for T2 frigs instead.
