I'd like to see an industrial version of a freighter/dreadnought, basically a super mining ship that can go out into deep space, mine and refine the ore there and bring back a large shipment of minerals at the end (like freighters though they cannot use jetcans etc).
Deep Space Mining ship... The idea behind this ship is that a player can take one of these super ships out into deep space away from a station for very long periods of time to mine rare ores in hard to reach places. - Limited slot configuration encouraging users to think about what to fit. - Requires using jump drive technology like a dreadnought to get to it's destination. - Requires similiar construction methods like dreads. - Can fit huge high yield mining lasers that operate alot like strip miners right now (large yield, long cycle time etc). - Can fit industrial modules that allow it to reprocess ore on site. There can be 3 types of this, small, medium and large, each refines more ore faster with less waste but each has a higher fitting requirement that may limit how many mining lasers can be fitted (again an attempt to encourage the player to work out a good balance in the setup between ore mined refining speed/efficiency). - Huge drone bay with a ship bonus that allows more drones to be carried per level (for defence and to increase mining output as well, again more balance). - Huge cargo bay that allows the contents to be ejected but it cannot open up any cans in space. This discourages the use of simply replacing a full cargo hold with tons of jet cans while still leaving the pilot the option of organising a convoy of indies to ferry the refined ore back home ensuring the ship doesn't become a purely solo miner. - Cannot be taken into empire space RP reason: basically the empires dont want these monsters stripping their resources dry. OOC reason: these ships are meant for deep space operations in out of the way places where no one else can operate without a base, NOT for stripping empire belts clean
Thats about all I can think of for it atm, it should be a ship that requires alot of planning team work and co-operation to get the best out of but at the same time make true deep space mining far from a station a real possibility. By allowing it to refine on sight (if you fit the module) it makes transporting the minerals back alot more efficient and managable for the haulers. It also gives us aspiring miners somthing truely huge to aim for like pvpers and traders as well as creating a true "industrial" ship.

A POS or outpost can refine. A Covetor can mine. A Dominix has a drone bay and can tank spawns. A Freighter and an Iteron MkV have large cargo holds.
Not all in one ship please. --
Want your POS to make money? Call me up. I've designed POSs that make upwards of 50m a day. |

Thats exactly the point though isn't it, you need to be near a starbase in order mine effectivly making a large portion of 0.0 space more hassle to mine in than it's worth.
This ship requires team work and support through its fuel costs and requirements of needing a jump drive to get into position as well as indies to transport the processed minerals back to a base in order to make the cost of the jump worth the effort.
This isn't meat to be some ship that a miner can simply take out solo to mine and process ark solo and then jump back, like dreadnoughts it requires brains and teamwork to get the best of instead of a simple grind through training skills and buying modules (isk grind).

And alt with a beacon and an itty mk 5 full of fuel doesnt quite count as teamwork I would agree with Dark. ------------------
