you can't really compare real world to this because there are infinite resources in the game. There isn't in rl.
And it's very hard to maintain one corp, nevermind an alliance in a transient game. People come and go too often.
Good luck with your idea but your gonna have to be huge to influnce prices.

Oh and to add:
Given your solution, I'd prolly end up providing you exactly what you asked for: a corp war. Except I fight really dirty.
I pod combatants and non-combatants (you wear the logo, you're fair game) I harass operations (try protecting mining ops and suddenly having a stream of cruise missiles headed at you in the middle of the fight_ I hire people to feed you false information ("He went <--> way") I trap (solo even, which makes it more fun) I'll pod your customers (doing business with you is supporting you, ergo they're allies and open season).
Generally I try to have fun. And I'm just one little guy. Imagine what happens if you try this with a group of people like me :)
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

I'm lazy and didn't bother to read this whole thread before replying so if someone already said this...well...I don't really care.
Here is why this idea would not work. The miners of the corp that you have declared war on would only have to quit the corp and join an NPC corp. Now they are untouchable. They go mine, bring the stuff back to the station and trade it to the "official" corporate rep who then makes and sells the ships without ever having to leave the station and give the miners their cut. Or, even better, they all just make alts and join a "shell corporation" together for the sole purpose of gathering ore for the real corporation and their real characters. If you declare war on the shell corp they all just quit the corp and form a new one. I could go on and on with ways to get around this, but I'm sure you get the point. Just a little Jackass... |

So basically create and OPEC for cruiser and battleship production. Only thing is, you would have to be prepared to fight corps that disobey price minimums, and possibly those that buy from the corps disobeying price minimums. Sounds fun. I want to be the thug that gets to regulate the fools. >= )

Jash - That would be fun I would like a challange like that I thought you were just going off like some of the other posters I see that slander other becuase they don't agree. But I see your roleplay as a welcomed challenge NOw if only I can get more corps that like that Idea.
I see your point as it seeming Mifia like. That is not my intent. I was think of first explaining to them what is wrong with the picture, and coming to a compromise before saying do it or else we also would like to try and get them to join. It is not good business to threaten those you wish to make your allies.
"If someone is undercutting your prices on the market, why don't you simply buy out their supply and mark it up to your price? If it's a ship it'll take them time to restock the supply, during which time you make a profit off their work (because you bought low and sold high)."
That is a good Idea I like it. I also like the inseruse scam with the sellers who sell really low.

This is a really great idea, I love it.
It'll never work in a million years.
A> Everyone and their mother now has a cruiser BP copy. You are talking about getting a LOT of corps and a LOT of solo manufacturers together. Humans just dont cooperate that well.
B> Half of them can just offer BYOM deals from high security space where you can never touch them, robbing you of any way to use force to maintain your little price fix.
C> Hard headed bassids like Jash will ***** you to death untill you are fed up with it.
I would suggest other methods of increasing your revenue. Sell you ships pre-fitted with a decent setup. Have pilot ferry your ships to other regions to sell wher the market might be better. Ive noticed in Heimatar minmatar cruisers are going for dirt cheap (5 mil for a rupture) while in other places you can still find stabbers on the market for 7 mil.
Of course, your trade consortium sounds like terribly amusing, so by all means go ahead with it. I'll be here to tell you I told you so. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |
