Once they get as far as hiring the Director, it's pretty much a done deal.
About the only thing that could stop it at this point is if it truly starts shaping up disastrously like Tim Burton's "Superman Lives" during pre-production, but that's really rare and has to be that certain degree of awful for Hollywood to let go of that kind of money these days. Even "Bucky Larson" actually got released, ya know ? Despite what we think of the game, it just is not that well enough known to be of interest to the profit machine that is Hollywood. Game must be at the popularity level of a WoW or DOOM to attract enough financing.
If it does get enough financing for independent production though, one runs the risk of it being in the hands of Uwe Boll America is the only country to go from barbarism to decadence (and back to barbarism - KI) without civilization in between. - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

That's the problem with this kind of statement in print, in that this could be interpreted as serious, sarcastic, or stupid.

If it does get enough financing for independent production though, one runs the risk of it being in the hands of Uwe Boll edit: It's still hard to believe he directed one episode of Twin Peaks. To some, the very obscurity may work in its favor - Fewer pre-concieved notions, more lattitude in storyline development.
Certainly, there are stories enough to work from - the GHSC gank of Mirial & Ubiqua Seraph, for instance. That's a ready-made storyline that needs only minor fleshing-out to become a rather compelling movie.
Of course, this all presupposes intelligence and logic in Hollywood. (Yeah, I know - Hollywood has it's own internal logic - Which everyone else calls 'insanity.')

Actually an independent EVE movie about the Real Life behind the scenes hijinks and all that behind the meta-game, like the planning for the BoB bust-up and some of the infamous heists and crimes, would be a more compelling picture than yet another video game film. Except for the great gung-ho spirit of the DOOM movie, they have all really been bad (Lara Croft, Final Fantasy, yadda yadda).
It could even outdo "The Social Network" as a portrait of where the Internet is taking us. America is the only country to go from barbarism to decadence (and back to barbarism - KI) without civilization in between. - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

I predict that Hollywood will treat any WoW movie with contempt for its audience and complete disregard to the game from which it draws its 'inspiration,' resulting in a condescending suckfest of a movie.

Thank you. And I'm hardly forum challenged. There is just tons of stupid particularly in the EVE-O Forum in general. America is the only country to go from barbarism to decadence (and back to barbarism - KI) without civilization in between. - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

That presupposes an intelligent director and a studio willing to gamble on a fairly complex storyline. It can happen. But it's a longshot - Hollywood doesn't have much faith in its audiences being willing to show up in large numbers for intricately-plotted movies with densely-packed storylines.

my thought on how an eve movie could be done is that they could go more into some of the history of eve. the initial colanization, the closing of eve gate, our rising as separate factions. discovering space travel, meeting the jove, the hardships of the minmatar, and the capturing of caldari prime. then get more into the kinds of descriptions of how pod and dusty clone tech work like they cover in the books. I mean, imagine a section of a movie explaining who these bad ass gods are and why/how they reached that state. |

Eve movie would be best to tackle the Rise of the Jovians in my opinion. Its in the distant past, so wouldn't change the course of the current events, its probably in the game Bible what happened with what.
Problem is that a there needs to be a bad that can be resolved, not a minor bad that leaves the landscape uncganged, but a palatable difference that allows the protagonists to have and experience. How can they do that in Warcraft? There needs to be an interesting starting ground, and a development that leads us to an ending. Warcraft is in a kind of perpetual cold war, and does anyone else remember Dungeons and Dragons?
