Dont snipe with a phoon. 4 guns and no damage bonus = pathetic range. You might be able to pop a couple of frigs with it but I wouldnt expect to do much else.
With a tempest, you just need a couple sensor boosters, a couple tracking mods, and a bunch of gyro II with 6x 1400 in the high slots. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

Tempest:
6x1400 / whatever you like and fits 2x Sensor booster / 3x tracking computer 5x gyro / 1x rcu
With T2 RCU you can fit nicer stuff in highs
If you really want to snipe from far far away, or you really are desparate to use EMP ammo at 100k you can use:
3x sensor booster / 2x tracking computer 5x tracking enhancer / 1x RCU
Why dont we all f1f2f3 eachother? |

Hello dude, so you wanna be a tempest pilot, hahaha, right ok... First phoons are not so bad if you wanna hit smaller ships they can snipe from really far away cus of the bonus but the tempest is the best ship in game imo.
Now with the new patch you dont need an RCU II, you can fit 6 1400's and 4 sensor boosters 1 tracking or 2-3 tracking and 2-3 sensor boosters.. Low just fit 6 gyro's Tech II.. but if you are a new player you need skills lots of them in order to fly one proper but when you have them.. you will feel the power.
The tempest is simply the best ship... mouahha
Rasta and Ray-Ban... We ******* own yeaahh.. smoke a little not too much when you fly it will drive you crazy..

Actually, at 100km typhoon do just as much damage as tempest. And much better damage at 150km than tempest. It has something do to with range bonus... -- Stories: #1 --

While you can use a phoon for sniping, it's damage output is slightly less then a tempest (4 guns to 6 guns) and that can make or break a tank, esp with lower skills/tech1 guns. While a phoon 4x1400/4xcruiser setup is nice, it requires way more skills to accomplish for the same results (and 2x rcu2's.. lol) -------------------- -Oi- Sedory Darklight |

TRaking mods + sensorbooster TII on both if probs with CPU change to named or standard, Dmg mods in low to make u get better rof basicly but some senorEnhan in low and more tracking in med can pay off aswell (better hits)
All depends how long u wanna push the range/dmg

Typhoon does have damage bonus. ROF is a damage bonus. Combined with ability to use higher damaging ammo from optimal bonus it makes it quite good sniper. But Tempest is a better ship for sniping because of its bonus going against 6 guns instead of 4. It is quite possible to configure it though.
4 1400mm, 4 assult or heavy missles (anti frigate, breaking tank of heavier close range battleships) -------------------- AB,tracking comp, sensor booster, webber (anti intercepter weapon) -------------------- PG/DAMAGE/SPEED mods.
this will probably work quite well, I am not crazy about long range, so have not tried it.

look at this easy phoon sniping setup: 4 x 1400 II 4 whetever fits 4 sensor booster II 2 tracking enchancher II 5 gyrostabilisers
max range is 240 km and u can lock at 260km at 2-3 sec can pop any ceptor with 2-3 guns and never miss at that range. no return fire as u were expecting; most ships cann't lock u at that distance. any ceptor that doesn't warp is dead for sure. they have to go smth like 10km/s and keep sig radius under 40m and still get ganked by this setup Phoon si a great sniper and like all other snipers is real life it wasn't made to kill tanks but foot soldiers from very very far. Edited by: deathfighter on 12/07/2005 06:54:00 except trajectory analisis lvl4 and arti spec lvl4 + sig analisis lvl4 and long range targeting lvl4
but overall that is what i tried. k max range was a little less always thought somehow that optimal was 195km instead of 182km but still preaty good setup.
i don't know if anyone else has noticed but a lot of times i shoot well outside my optimal + falloff. so overall is a very good setup agains't ceptros and normal frigates.
got to love that 800 + sig resolution Death

Nice Tool!! (hehe) in the meantime, how about showing us the results with Proton and Phased Plasma? Carbonised Lead is a bit too far into "paper dart" territory for me...
Also, is it really worth stacking so many gyro2? I thought the penalties made it pretty pointless after 3..... (but I'm no expert on maths)

Yea ! the stacking penalty affects the result, but, you still get a 'boost'. Example : One 50% boost ~ base * 1,5 Two 50% boost ~ base * 1.98 Three 50% boost ~ base * 2,5 Four 50% boost ~ base * 3,15 Five 50% boost ~ base * 3,88
so, as you see, the result is still getting quite good. \Mindblower

... and the ranges are : Proton L = 136 000 Phased Plasma L = 71 000

The Typhoon does not compare well to tempest for sniping imo... You can get say a 100km ramnge with Phased P on a Typhoon, but with a Tempest you can use an ammo or two down in terms of dmg (about 15% less dmg per round) and have the same or better range. While the dmg will be 50% mor due to the 2 extra turrets plus the dmg bonus which is another 25% (at max mim BS). So its over 50% better dmg with the tempest using the crappy ammos than the 'sniperphoon' setup.

As I mentioned, I still have things that I want to add to the program... bit if you want to try it as it is, be my guest.
I charge a small fee for the use of EVEnst (lots of hours that I haven¦t been able to earn isk :)
You can read all about it on this website (I just put it up) EVEnst
There is a limited trial version that you should test first, to verify that it works on your OS and with your regional settings.
After that, it¦s up to you if you still consider it useful enough. \Mindblower

doing more damage than a tempest at 150km and doing *good* damage are not the same thing. You'll be lucky to kill an indy with a small shield booster before it warps out if youre sniping from 150km with a phoon.
And and for whoever else that was: an ROF bonus is not a damage bonus, its an ROF bonus. It just happens to effect DOT but DOt might not matter when you're sniping since if you dont have a tackler anything but a BS or indy is going to be able to warp out before you're second volley.

so, from what i'm hearing from everyone, the phoon is not the ship to snipe in, but you can still do it if you want. You just wnon't be as effective.
You guys have to admit it's still a decent ship for the minmatar right?

I love the phoon. I find that its not as effective as Id like for fleets, the 5th mid slot and higher 1 volley damage at medium ranges is better for on the tempest... so I dont fly the phoon much any more.
But I used to use them all the time. The right setup and its a devestating close range ship, and since a lot of people apparently think its sub par you get more BS willing to engage you rather than run away. +++
