heh I know alot of you space sim fanatics remember the show babylon 5. No not the ranger show or the other one, the original series.
Now this game might have had way more publicity if it used the babylon 5 name.
I mean think about it, you have the amarrians (Centari), the Narn (Mimitar), the Terrans (Caldiri), and the Minbari (Gallentte). and then the jove (Vorlons)
Now think of the insanity if they put in a crazy evil new race to counter the Jove. heh All you babylon 5 freaks know about the shadows.
Hell throw in some first ones and talk about things to talk about for years to come.
Heh just throwing this out there to give a little break from all the negativity out here.
Yes I want a WHITE STAR!!!!!!
Or even think about running for your life from SHadow battle crabs.............yes running for DEAR life. _______________________

While I love Babylon 5 I don't think this game really resemblies it to much. First while based in space it was all about interactions between people in stations, on planets or ships. In reality it had very little to do with space other than the odd battle.
This game is much more like Privateer with the add bit about corps. That game is at the top of my best single player games to date. If this game will just start getting the back story in place and adding content to support it I think this game will take off.

man, I really want to see all of Babylon 5. I keep pushing my roomate who is a big fan to buy the rest so I can watch it. Instead he bought Farscape everything. I liked the whole shadows era of B5, as well as the Thirdspace movie thing. (ah brings back memories). ------------------

I love you people. >:]
I am also a very big Babylon 5 fan, I think it's by far the best TV series I have seen to date. So much so that I would take it over Star Trek and all the anime's in the world put together..
Heck, my Thorax is called 'White Star' ever since I got one in beta. Coincidence? Never!
Btw, the races do resemble the races in Babylon 5, highly too, its scary.. Still working on getting a Vorlon ..err. Jove ship :)
In beta there was a Babylon 5 corp.. dunno if they still exist. I also saw a 'mollari' and a 'Mr Morden' the other day within like an hour travelling. Kinda freaked me out o_0
'oh yesss, your ships are quite impressive in the air Mr Morden, but as of now they are on the ground' - Mollari 'yes, but they can sense a ship coming miles away!' - Mr Morden
well.. you know what happens after ;) _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

This game could VERY easily become just like the bab5 universe.. im mean come on the thorax almost looks like a white star, cocord battle ships look like the earth allicence Nova Dreadnoughts. If they had made this bab5 I bet a lot more people would have bought the game. "Death Before Dishonor" |

>> Yes I want a WHITE STAR!!!!!!
Hello? Paging Capt. Thorax?
edit: dag, hit reply immediately and already too late to be the first with that rather obvious observation =8).
B5 was simply the best thing to hit tv ever. Farscape was approaching its intensity and thoughtfulness, so scifi had to kill it. I don't watch the USA-Network-Owned scifi channel any more. The dude in charge of the network reputedly hates "space shows" and would like to see more crap like John Edwards and movies they won't *even* show on USA...
ahem.
The Amarr / Minmatar - Centauri / Narn parallel is there, but it's really more of a parallel than a resemblance. The Amarr are a bunch of zealots, where the Centauri clearly had that "declining Roman-like decadent Empire" thing going...
I also think i like the Jove better than the Minbari (gasp!). The Minbari were great but ultimately known to be pawns with their own human-like internal conflicts; not so more advanced than us after all.
The Jove seem far darker, engaged in shady goings-on and answering only to who knows what. And they seem more willing to engage with nearly anyone on their own terms to advance their own goals (Jovian Wet Grave...). Spooooky bastiches.

Unfortunately had they named it Bab 5 they would no doubt have had to pay massive royalties simply for the use of the name.

Yay for B5!
I still play the ccg they made for it every monday night - even though the rules are very clunky.
This type of MMOG in a B5 universe would rock. If I ever come out of warp next to a babylon station, that would make my week :)

i can't believe you actually think babylon 5 approaches or even surpasses farscape.
farscape being ofcourse the ultimate in sci-fi.

Farscape is certainly a lot edgier than B5, and often more intense. It feels like it's on ***** sometimes, and perhaps that's why some people are not comfortable watching it.
The dialog or script lines on Farscape is certainly a lot crispier and better than B5. _______________________________________________ "Is it me or the bad guys just getting totally pathetic?"---Clover, Totally Spies, "Hope is wasted on the Hopeless."---Mandy, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. expect me when you see me. :p
but anyway....the races in B5 are just allegories for different human characteristics, which is pretty much what the devs have done with the races in Eve. so that's where i think you're drawing the comparison.

I hope we do see an alien "threat" of somesort, as long as they only trikle information in. A few players seing an unrecognised ship on the edge of known space for example. Little things like that to begin with...
Just like the Shadows in B5. Tiny pieces of information to begin with, just to let you know that something is out there.
Just for the record, B5 beats Farscape. End of Story.
"Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else"
Hehe. I love that quote.

Yeah the first 4 seasons were arguably the best.
I don't know what happned with the 5th one but one thing I loved was how it was all tied together in one story. I mean I remember the episode when the raiders attacked the station trying to get the eye of something.
Then when the raider carrier got away a shadow ship blew it to pieces. How many of you guys remember that.
Or when that Oriental lady went to some sector and ran accross that first one. Then 2 seasons later Ivonova goes to the exact same sector and recruits the same first one.
It truly was a rewarding show to watch. Every episode somehow was tied in with another one. For some it made the show confusing but for me I loved every minute of it.
And of course the Battle scenes had to be the best I have ever seen. Almost rivaling the Death star scene in return of the Jedi (Almost)
Yes Babylon 5 was a great show. _______________________

I loved B5. At one time I had almost all the episodes on tape, but some of the tapes got destroyed. B5 and Space:Above and Beyond are my 2 favorite Sci-Fi series of all time. Didnt really like what I saw of the "Ranger" series and stuff that came after B5 though.

The coolest thing about Babylon 5 was the really long premier, where the humans were getting their asses spanked. That was badass. I never really watched the show, but **** the premier was sweet.

The best b5 tie in is the fact that in the pilot there are several key plots developed and several sentances that just don't seem to make sense.. eg "There is a hole in your mind"
Then 3 seasons into it we finally start to learn all the truth behind that first pilot episode.
IMHO B5 is the greatest series I have ever seen, up to now, which is saying something when you consider I'm including sci fi from many decades as comparison (and not just the latest sci fi - Farscape etc). Such as Dr Who, Blake 7, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactic, Lost in space etc etc.
Will it be beaten in the future, I hope so :) because if it is, we're in for a great ride :)

the 5th season of B5 wasn't too great because JMS wasn't even sure he was going to get it. so he had to change his storyline and wrap everything up by the end of the 4th season. then when he got the 5th season he didn't have much storyline left, so most of the season is just filler.

Yup, season 5 was the wrap up they didn't think they'd get to do. The final episode in Season 4, The Deconstruction of Falling Stars, was expected to be the last episode hence this quote at the end:

Faith manages." =============================== Deception + Information + Skill |

Deconstruction of Falling Stars was easily one of my favourite eps from the whole of B5, it really is a shame about series 5. I felt series 4 was a bit too rushed, was very good, but a bit rushed.

My prefered episode is the Day of the Death. Just like the athmosphere, and Rebo and Zoothi are just too strange and cool. The author of the episode is Neil Gaiman, and you feel his touch in the episode.
The movie Third Space come second. :) The part when the voice of Lita explain the story of the Vorlon, and who they met on the other side of the gate, at the same time, you see the gate open and ubah ships coming trough, that scene make me go berserk every time I see it.
