I've noticed lately that various ships(retrievers, covetors, etc) are suddenly almost impervious to the garden variety gankalyst. Is there a new growing trend with miners to use hidden orca shield boosts? |

If an orca RRs a miner being ganked (limited engagement) it should go suspect as far as I know, saw it happen just after patch day when an Orca repped a hulk during a suicide gank, the Orca went suspect and was taken down by some uninvolved pilots without Concord interference.

Some miners are adapting, although some miners have always done this regardless.

Five Hulkageddons and an indefinitely extended Goonswarm bounty have apparently achieved their goals of educating miners to protect their production capital.
Endless discussion of "solo PvP" tactics has had the effect of educating miners about the power of warfare links.

Criminal actions against a target no longer produces a Limited Engagement flag. As such, anyone providing remote assistance to the target of a criminal action will no longer acquire a Suspect flag. It has always been the case...
if your remote RR somebody and somebody else engages him his reppers will shut down, this was in place even before Crimewatch. He has to go suspect to RR somebody under attack. But he has to change his safety button to yellow to do so. He has to go suspect to RR somebody under attack. But he has to change his safety button to yellow to do so. Or did I misunderstand what your talking about? I think you may have understood me. I'll use a concrete example: a Catalyst attempts to suicide gank a Hulk, while the Hulk is receiving remote repair from an Orca.
In the past, when Crimewatch was first implemented, the situation would be thus:
1. The attempted suicide gank is a Criminal Action. In the past, this criminal action would give the Hulk a Limited Engagement flag against the Catalyst. 2. Because of the Hulk's Limited Engagement flag, the Orca must either incur a Suspect flag, or have his remote repair modules shut off automatically.
I am pointing out that CCP later changed the mechanics, so that the situation would now be:
1. The attempted suicide gank is a Criminal Action. Now, this criminal action no longer gives the Hulk a Limited Engagement flag against the Catalyst. 2. Since the Hulk has no Limited Engagement flag, the Orca may freely provide remote repairs without incurring a Suspect flag. |

Orcas in belts and ice fields with a shield gang link are as old as Hulkageddon. In ice fields does one only need to ask in local for fleet bonuses and one often gets not only a boost to mining but to shield resists, too. Skiffs can then have up to 124k eHP and more. With a signature of ~230m do these become as hard to gank as a freighter.
Orcas then do not need to hide off grid, but can have up to 250k eHP and can sit just next to the miners. SCAM CAT - Titan Jump - I was there - Goon Dog |

Stealth changes.. meh. I remember that one Orca going suspect for RRing a hulk during a gank, it didn't last long once it was flagged. That was just after the retribution patch day though.

Its simple. When I mine (rarely now I prefer mission running) I run LOGI or Gang Links. I also will offer them to other Miners.
Miners are starting to realize that working in groups is a good thing. Its slow in coming as miners are a stubborn bunch but they are learning to Tank fit and even trade fits now.
I have been teaching them also.
Infact any miners that wants it I will give my Fits.
Rules for Miners:
1. Tank fit your ships. 2. Run in groups. 3. Use t2 drones. 4. Learn what LOGI is. 5. Learn up those Shield Tanking skills then declare your Elite tanking skills in your BIO. 6. Put Fuzzy bunnies in your BIO

Now go blow somebodies ship up and stop whining about whatever your are lacking. |

btw, can confirm the EHP numbers posted above, orca with about 250k and skiff at about 125k EHP

Hmmm ... maybe New Order Alts should start offering Orca Shield boosts?
Fleet warp the AFK miners to an unfinished level 4 mission deadspace,
cancel warp ( easy to do, it takes forever for an Orca to align ),
and leave fleet.
Have a pilot in a capsule film the carnage in the deadspace.
We could call it ... Operation Promised Land. Join the New Order, buy your permit today, and follow the code.

Just the thought of warping around AFK miners like puppets is fun. I'm sure we could find all sorts of new friends for them this way.

Too bad you can't fleet jump. That could lead to all sorts of hilarious outcomes. You lead them all back to ORE HQ. |
