I think they should get the actor that does Homer Simpson to do the voice.

Nice ideas Mr Floppyknickers :)
But personally i think the new voice has more personality then the old one, not saying that either of them were bad, and i for one is more tired of all the molehill mountains people are building then the changes made in-game. ________________________________________ <insert clever/witty comment here>

"There was a previous version on the test server, people made an ~8 page thread in game development about how they hated the new "perky english" voice and fonts, the rumour as I heard it is the new depressed sounding voice is the second try they recorded after they told her about the ~200? posts saying they hated the first one."
Poor CCP... damned when they do, damned when they don't ^^;;
Well, since there's apparently 4 versions of the computer sound now (the original, the perky one, the depressed one and this latest one yet to come) ... could be convenient to just let the user choose from the available sets, this way hopefully everyone would be able to find the version they like. o.O;

Originally by: infused Were not getting annoyed at the real person behind it, it's just the wrong voice for the game. I personally don't like it and now play with sound off. Did she get upset or something?
you might not be attacking her personally but people have been saying some very hurtful things about her on the forum lately like "get that ***** off the drugs" and such. It's the same as saying "Oveur, were you ****ing drunk when you put out the last patch?!", it's just offensive and it is a malicious thing to say about someone, specifically about a employee of the company who mades the game and hosts these forums. It's against the forum rules to say things like that about ANYONE.
Maybe you didn't see the posts saying nasty things being posted (maybe moderators got them), but I saw them being posted and it's just not on :/. People saying "I don't like the new voice" isn't the problem, it's when they resort to name-calling that seems to be the problem.

You are 100% correct Nyphur! However, I think the name calling and attacks are a direct result of the devs not appearing to give a rat's patootie what the players like or dislike. People naturally get frustrated when they continuously pay for a product that gets worse instead of better and their only serious means of feedback (the forums) gets ignored or worse you get a response like this one:
Originally by: Oveur The small things you mention, like someone said here, if they are the only things wrong, I guess the rest of EVE is in pretty good shape, wouldn't you say?
My confidence level in Oveur on a 10 point scale dropped 4500 points when I saw him say that. It even kind of hurt my feelings...
I've said it before and I'll say it again and I'll continue saying it until the day I die. The "small things" ARE the game. The big things like content are the icing not the cake!

The new voice is growing on me but I would love to be able to buy different ship 'computers' which had different voices from the market. This could also apply to 'advanced' UI functions as plug in modules.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

Why only now nearly a week since Cold War patch do you mention this?
Is she so frail she really will need drugs if they continue to comment on her recorded voice? That being the case maybe she needs a new line of work? She could become a Dev nobody ever slams their work
Faulty testing kept me from delivering the "Logic Editor" earlier.
I was using my own post and it kept blanking everything out.

IMO the voice itself is ok. What I don't like about it is:
- The engineering job on it. It sounds too natural. I'd like a little more compression, more flanger and a little less reverb/room on it.
- She sounds too much like she's asleep or something. Having my puter almost asleep doesn't really make me feel safe in my pod if you know what I mean
. I know she's supposed to sound pretty 'cold' but IMO you didn't quite catch the "Eve" feeling on that one.
- You need to get rid of the overlapping. When you dock while in docking range the two announcements will overlap. When you autoreload multiple guns at the same time the voice is played 5 times over making it really loud and intrusive.
- I think the voice is too loud. Either reduce the volume or add a slider to the options panel so that I can adjust the volume.

Why can't we insult the voice actress? It's not as if anyone here actually chose her, CCP just put it on us in the Cold War patch, regardless of whether we liked it or not.I'm pretty sure an EVE player poll would suggest that the new voice is NOT well liked. I have been toying with the idea of moving on to another game, but- If CCP will redo the voice-acting with Gilbert Godfrey, I will sign up for another year, at least. That would be so cool!

Edited by: Teela Belwynn on 13/07/2005 15:07:26 My guess on the answer to the question Why a new voice? would be;
They decided to add alot of new voice samples, so rather than having Jon Hallur recording the new ones himself and tweaking his voice again to sound like the old samples (which may not end up perfect), they went with the much easier alternative -- re-doing all of them with a real female voice, gaining continuity in the process.
Personally I like the new voice alot more than the old one.

Well, I quite like the voice. I think 'Mr Floppyknickers' suggestions were brilliant, very funny but I doubt we'll be able to choose to have a stoned Dutch man or a drunken Geordie builder as the computer voice anytime soon, pitty though
Imagine - 'WAY AYE MAN, are yous blind! your ******* cap is em'ty man'
or 'YEEHAW, this cap thang is dryer than a 97 year 'ol hooker, you ain't gonna get nothin out this boy'

I also like the new voice, although it would be better if it didn't overlap as much.
My current pet hate is the text box that pops up telling me that I "cannot navigate while warping". Personally I think that this would be a damn good time to be navigating but perhaps I'm the only one who likes to get where I'm going.

Edited by: Severe McCald on 13/07/2005 15:58:28 Edited by: Severe McCald on 13/07/2005 15:57:57 I love the voice. I think she sounds quite sexy. Especially when she says: "your autopilot is ohhn". I'm always surprised she doesn't add: "big boy".
An italian or russian accent would (for the same reason) be even better. I am afraid Scotty doesn't do it for me.
Although, if you could get the voice lady to shout: "she cannae handle it captain!!" at appropriate moments, I promise to play forever.

Not insulting the voice actress personally, but I say the voice is a horrible match for Eve. It's way too drawn out and depressing for the atmosphere of Eve, it's inefficient and distracting. The old voice was short, to the point, and did not distract from more important tasks at hand. I now play with voice volume turned all the way off.
ALso mods, please recognize the ability of forumers to criticize a voice performance without being directly disrespectful to the voice actor/actress. It's no different that a movie review.
