Edited by: Rimhawk on 17/07/2005 19:37:03 First off, I agree missiles were too powerful in Exodus.
So after the patch I dutifully trained up the new missile skills. I swapped some heavy launchers for assault launchers on my ferox. I replaced my med guns with small guns. I had a hold full of drones to combat frigates and drones. I did everything people had said to do and thought that I was finally ready.
First couple of level 3 missions with my ferox weren't too bad, although I did notice it took a lot longer to take out other ships. Even with the new skills, damage levels were horrible, particularly against light ships. But ok, I could manage.
Then I came into 'kill the informant', which starts out with drones... just a couple. One of them was scrambling/webbing me, which I also expected (done it pre-patch several times). So I figured I would just take it out before it got in range. Launched drones, fired light and heavy missiles, all at that one drone. To my great surprise I could only barely damage it. Then it got in range. I couldn't move, couldn't warp out either for some reason (guess it was scrambling but never noticed it on that mission before). I added my guns to the mix but still no luck.
Now if that wasn't bad enough, I also used to be able to tank those drones, but I seem to have lost that ability as well. They took down my shield despite my huge cap, PDU's, shield hardeners and shield extender II. It took them a while, but not long enough for corp reinforcements to show up. All the time I just sat there watching my shields drop. Ultimately I lost my ferox, including about 30 mill worth of equipment on it.
So there I was out of a ship and out of money, because I had just happened to have bought and outfitted a raven not so long ago. Fine, so I decided to take it in with an escort of frigs on one of the new cosmos missions. We did well, but then we came across a single scorp battleship. I was armed with torps and cruises. We had a ferox and my BS firing into the scorp with missiles at short range. We didn't do much to it at all. At best we could take its shields down halfway, but then within a matter of seconds it would boost back up to full.... We emptied the entire payload of our ships into it at point blank range and didn't make a dent... The only good news was that we were able to tank it as well, if barely.
The thing of it is, I worked very hard for a Ferox and a Raven and now I have lost the Ferox and the Raven is sitting in my hangar. The Raven I don't dare take out because I'm afraid I will lose it and most of the remainder of my net worth. Why am I afraid of that? Because I know of at least 9 other more experienced players (who've played for years) who have lost their ravens despite using the suggested new setups and despite having the missile skills trained up. If they can't do it, how can I?
The problem is, and I'm not whining here, this has seriously ruined my fun in the game. I don't pretend to be very experienced or good at this game, and I certainly don't know all the ins and outs. And I don't expect to have an uber ship, but I do expect to still be able to do *some* damage after the patch, particularly if I follow common advice and what CCP seems to want me to do.
But at this point I am seriously considering quitting the game. Quite a few other players have voiced the same opinion. I like EVE, but now I have to start all over again. I am not sure I want to pay for a game that has virtually put me back to square one after months of work, despite my best efforts to comply with the game designers wishes...
Please do something, this was too much of a nerf..
