i am the only one hu can see a gap here - i am not sure if having a ship in between these would totally unbalance the game - i think thats quite likely actually, as it would be by far the most powerful ship for wars if it could go to high sec systems unless a t2 assault BS comes out.
i just kinda wondered if CCP are planning a ship class to bridge the BS-Dread gap, like the battlecruiser bridges the Cruiser-BS gap

Allthough people moan about BC's I think they are very good ships, i think that when they were implamented they meant that n00bs everywhere didn't have such a big stepup from cruiser > bs, the bs > dead step is logical, but is it needed?

IMO there shouldnt be a ship to bridge the gap between dreds. Thinking about it you cant even compaire it as a gap. Its like saying frig - industrial. We nees somthing to bridge that gap. Dreds are designed for attacking starbases, outposts and stations, they are not a ship vs ship combat vessle so you cant really compair them to the way that the frig - cruiser - battlecruisr - bs system works cos they're just way to different.

Why are you so scared about Dreadnoughts? First of all : There will be quite a few of them. Second, they're mean't for destroying starbases. Third, no one knows if they're really gonna be ³ber against battleships, and we know they for sure can't hurt anything smaller than that. Fourth, Dreadnoughts are logistical nightmares, jumpdrives are not just "point and click".
It is not like these "Dread-nots" are gonna rock the boat that often, teamwork is still gonna keep people safe from them, or even kill them. Bridging the "gap" would pretty much ruin the point with Dreadnoughts.

I can't understand why everyone is going on about BC's not being any good. The Ferox for example is a massively versatile platform, probably capable of taking out a BS in PVP.

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

I see no gap, quite honestly. The order-of-magnitude jump in price is not out of line with others in the progression of other ship classes. As far as the performance jump, well I'm pretty sure neither of us are qualified to comment on that yet. Maybe when that day does come I'll have more to say.

My understanding is that this is very much a parallel of the situation that people were in at the beginning of public release with battleships. When the first ones were built, it was a massive undertaking, and took a lot of people to make it happen. Now its become commonplace, with Miner IIs and things chugging away merrily. Give it 6 months. I bet every alliance has multiple dreads by then, and that the number of dreads killed is well over a dozen. ---

The Progression from Battleship to dreadnought looks Perfectly normal to me. |

just MHO but i say leave it be. Dreds need to be as hard to obtain as possible, and making a stepping stone ship might make it easyier to get into one. EG.. used to go through level 4 missiions like a lightsaber through butter

You're making the mistake of assuming a dreadnought is just a giant battleship, which it clearly isn't. It's a flagship and a siege tool.

And bloody good it is too!!!
However, i do think the gap between BS and dreads is vast, and i understand they have different roles. I think that the gap would be less noticable if we had the ' missing' teir 3 BS.

To bridge the gap between the Battleship and Cruiser they created the Battle Cruiser. Therefore, to bridge the gap between the Dreadnaught and Battleship and , I forsee they will introduce the Dread Battleship

There is no gap. Dreadnoughts are specialised siege engines for use against starbases. Battleships are still the top multi-purpose 'ships of the line'. They really arent that hot against Battleships which can easily get under their XL turrets. The realy big hits (1000's-10,000's damage) came from Dreadnoughts in siege mode hitting near stationnary Battleships at optimal range.
