Took this directly from VN Boards:
*** 1. Why are people allowed to stay in newbie corp and take ore others have mined 100% risk free and even have the cops protect them from the people they steal from?
Hilmar V. PÚtursson: "This is the risk of using unsecured containers. If you want to guard yourself from this then use secure containers."
Sigtryggur O. Sigurdsson: "IÆm guessing your referring to the stealing of ejected containers. If so, there are now secure containers available on the market, use them to keep your stuff safe." ***

90 m3 for small one, 240 m3 for medium one, never seen a large one. However they take up 100m3 and 250m3 even when empty, so they're completely useless.

The secure containers are pretty useless for ore gathering. The capacity is only 400, and they can still be shot and blown up by players with no consequences.
Personally, I don't see the purpose of them.

The secure cans tested on chaos where as big or bigger then the jettison ones. they are what 240k M3?
And the guys shot at them for a long time and never made much of a dent in them. OFC they can still shoot at normal cans now.....empire space can't be 100% safe :/

If you dont want your stuff stolen then dont dump it into space for anyone to pick up.
Alternatively, get an escort.

There is no use in having an escort if they cannot shoot the thieves w/o being punished for it :-(

hire mean and nasty unscrupulous escorts?
Meanwhile has anyone used or found the REAL, ACTUAL secure containers yet? The ones that prompt you for a password? They aren't, as stated, the "cargo cans" you can buy already for no apparent reason. This is going to get annoyingly confusing with all the twits chiming in about the wrong cans, but we need to keep on the real ones and make sure they work right, and present clear, coherent info on them if they don't to get the up and running well ASAP.
Then just maybe FFS this expired equestrian topic will be allowed to sink back into its eternal slumber untroubled by the clubs of clods, Hey Men.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

Alternatively, make an alt named "I SHOOT THIEVES", shoot a noob with your civilian gatling rail once to get neg security rating, then go mine :-)

The secure container are required to trade special trade goods like radioactive and life animal. They may be unless for mining, but are not useless in the game world. --------------------------------

no, the guys in the chat were talking about containers that they hadn't yet placed in the game yet. That's not to say the code is not in place. maybe they just need more testing. Or there is an exploit possible with them (I can think of a couple) or the link between the can and it's owner isn't working, causing the police to shoot you from taking ore out of your own can.
Adding these cans may seem like a simple job, but I'm pretty sure it not as straightforward as we all think or hope. .

"We should at least be able to shoot down can theives without the cops all up our shiny bums in high sec systems."
That is something I think *everyone* agrees on. But we must beware the dangers that may be lurking in the solution.
ie. if I wanted a free-to-kill ticket on someone, I could blow up their canister, and drop one of my own while they're afk. when they come back, they try to check the cans, see which one is theirs, and this will flag them as thieves. At which point I could open fire.
This situation would be far worse than stealing a few thousand units of ore. .

Most of the time its not leaving cargo cans in space the annoyance. groups of ppl mining together need to transfer ore from the miner to the indy and only way of doing that is putting it into a can for indy to puck up. while the transaction happens some git comes along and blows it up or takes it. if u have a better way of transfering the ore from ship to ship in space then please by all means.

a good idea to use against can theivery is to previousley put a strong alternate char fighter who you dont care who looses sec rating and put it their where u are going to mine
next go mine where ur alt char will spawn and when some1 comes close swop characters and if he takes ore shoot away and quickly go offline b4 cops come and kill you. then go back to ur original miner :P

You're other ship that you don't care about will remain in space for 2 minutes after you log off, in which time the cops will have him dead.
If you are fast enough logging in with your alt you can watch him die.
I don't know if it's bug or if it works all the time but try this.
I put ore in a cc while I mined. I took some ore out of it back to my ship, then I put the ore back in the cc. When my partner tried to put the ore in the indy to take back to station, it told him "item 908723873... is not yours to take.
I had to make a new cc and put all hte ore in it for him to take it. I don't know if this is a bug or if it works everytime, but it's worth a shot.
One item I would love to see is "bogus cc's. Wouldn't it be great to see one of these theives try to steal from a cc which was actually a mine, only to blow them up." Man.... I would pay 1 mil for those ccs.

The cargo containers do not update or refresh information quickly for other players. The best way to handle it is to select the refresh information while only one player has the container open. This normally isnÆt a problem as long as items are not relocated within the container while another player has the container open.
Also, secure containers are now on the market in small, medium and large sizes. The large size is only 490m3, quite small from the jettisoned container size. However, these containers are quite sturdy and can be password protected.

The worst thing about ore thieves is that they don't have the common decency to "roleplay" it.
They just sail in, steal, and go.
At least some player pirates get involved in the romance and danger of highway robbery.

hey, I didn't leave, you kicked me out you psycho.
I even offered to take some of the kids, to save you from the danger of ejecting them into space of one of your drug-cocktail binges.
How you can blame me for this, I'll never understand. I worked 12 hour shifts to look after you and the boys, and this is the thanks I get?
You'll be hearing from my lawyers. .

pssh. Don't come up in here talking that smack.
You Gallente men are all the same, I'm gonna find me a nice Amarr man, he'll take care of the kids.
And I have a restraining order on you too, you're not allowed within 5 systems of me any more. So I'd get packing.
Oh, and I borrowed your thorax, and pranged it on the side of the docking bay. But then you only used it for mining anyway, you contemptable drunkard.
