From Consequences of A Bored Null Thread, post #391. Yes, I actually read all of it!!
Quote:One very interesting fact that came out was from the question "What to null sec players actually do all day anyway?"
The answer was that they do the same things that all Eve players do. However a lot of the pilots actually play other games while waiting for combat ops to spin up. I wonder if CCP is aware of that behavior and if it matters from a games as business standpoint. Maybe that is one of reasons behind DUST. Idk, its just something that I hadn't considered before.
I would just want opinions on this! I mean, if this is the case, the game would need a serious overhaul in at least some areas...? |

There isn't much built in content in nullsec, outside of ratting.
Most nullsec players come for the player made content of fleets. And it isn't all big blobs and mashing F1, no matter how much the NPC forum alts say it is.
But for many nullsec players, there isn't much reason to log in except for when a fleet is being put together. So long as they keep paying their subscription, CCP doesn't seem to mind this situation. |

So that begs the question, what *do* nullsec players want to do all day? Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |

outside of fleet stuff and living da INK experience, usually probe down mag/ladar sites (profit is usually sub-l4 but it's something to do), probe down wormholes so i can safely move pimp ships and trade stuff through without the bother of asking for a scout or escort/ sneak behind enemy lines and put up bubbles |

Usually stay cloaked and AFK all day while at work. Every once in a while, the wife walks by and types something strange in local to make everyone think im stalking them. Quite humorous. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

I'll maybe clear out and salvage/loot a forsaken hub or 2, but unless there's a fleet up that I'm interested in I'm playing other games and chilling with people on Jabber. 90% of EVE for me happens outside the game itself. |

For me, personally, it's answer convo requests and EvE mails. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

We post on our own forums and in our jabbers. Some people rat. Some salvage. Hardly any mine. There's generally ops up somewhere in the galaxy for TEST members.
Lots of people just do the first two and don't even bother logging in except to change skills. Sometimes not even for that.

My impression of nullsec players is that they are semi-afk like high sec miners until the intel channels pipe up about someone who is not blue, then they send a fleet to pop one noob or drop a cap fleet on a small gang doing a roam.
They are semi-afk because they are complaining in the forums about how nobody comes out to nullsec.
If we could give all ships system-to-system warp capability and eliminate the need for gates (by whatever mechanics) then nullsec becomes the uber leet PVP playground that nullseccers like to pretend that it is. |

....no wait, my bad. I was thinking about a whole different game. During sov warfare, yes. The defenders do have to put in a lot of effort.
If only CCP would make it so that sov warfare was actually appealing, it'd happen more often.

Well, that's the problem. If you start talking about the appealing factor you will automatically get back on the very question why null is so dead, why people in high-sec tend to avoid it, blobs and yada yada yada with all kinds of resulting Baghdad Bob responses from the blob masters.
