CCP you don't seem to realise quite how big an issue this is.
Since the last hotfix patch, around 10% of everyone I know has, for many of us for the first time in eve, started crashing, freezing and generally screwing up, ALL THE TIME.
Something introduced in that patch broke the game BADLY. This isnt something effecting just a handful of people using a particular ISP or Graphics Card, this is effecting a HUGE proportion of the population.
GIVE US A RESPONSE THAT AT LEAST SHOWS YOU ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND TRYING TO FIX IT.
If we dont get some kind of reassurance, are we to assume this state of affairs is considered acceptable and therefore here for the future?

I went to blue screen about 5 times in 25 minutes this afternoon, figured it was my computer but hearing others are having the same problems I guess not.

Well if CCP staff, like the majority (thousands) not having a single crash or freeze, do not have this problem, then how are they gonna be able to reproduce it so they can find the problem to fix it?
I think a more productive way than to post unhelpful posts like this on the forum is to contact the eve support and give whatever info and crash logs you have so they can have something to touch on when investigating the problem.

I was having crashes. I upgraded to the latest Omega drivers. They stopped. If you have an ATI card, get the latest Omega drivers.

but on the other hand i do know corp mates who previously had stable clients are on and off multiple times in a sesion.

im using the catalyst 5.4 drivers still for my ATI card and im having no problems and never had any. Perhaps its newer catalyst drivers thats having a problem towards eve? if all the "hundreds" are ATI users than that may well be it. Not unheard of.
Downgrading driver or using an alternative mod set like the omega driver may be worth testing then as maya touched on.

Yes, it must be affecting hundreds, look at the pages and pages of people that have responded to this thread with the same problem --------------------------------------

I know a large number of people who are CTDing frequently. Many people using full-screen are also having crashes when alt-tabbing.
The problem isnt limited to a specific graphics card or drivers.

Is my money not as good as yours?
CTDs aren't all of the problems either. Roll your eyes all you want, don't cry when its your turn to have these issues.

No, but I had a problem. A specific driver upgrade helped. So people may wish to try it.

Can't remember ever having Eve crash on my PC, certainly not post patch
Certainly seems like a driver or specific hardware that's causing it then - which i obviously dont have.
It would be useful if everyone posted their basic PC specs, i.e. cpu, memory, video card, sound card + isp. THat might identify a trend, e.g particular video card that is causing the problem.
That would be much more useful than just ranting about it _______________________________________________ Top 10 things I hate in these forums. *snip* -Oi mod |

wow exactly 20mins after First posting, you sure proved me wrong.
This IS the best way for CCP to become aware of it, and if you follow the forums you will see MANY MANY threads talking about this.

Im scum I agree
Ive never ever really CTD'd much in EVE, but since the last patch it seems slighty more unstable, i've been having random crashes. Especially when I run other programmes in the background. I used to listen to music via windows media player whislt playing, if I do that now I can get random CTDs, and on occasion I get the same problem when I change from windowed to full screen mode. It's hardly game breaking, just irritating.
Overview bugs however are game breaking... -----------------

I've had two CTDs since the patch, neither serious. I never used to get them but my eve is nice and stable. I notice a lot of people are getting them, though. I think the best thing to do is just petition them and wait it out while the bug is found. It's probably something to do with certain graphics cards or something since not everyone is having it.
Maybe if everyone getting the problem could post their PC specs and driver info?

Perhaps a better way to go would be to sumit a "other" petition. Follw CCP's instructions and attach whatever log they request. That way there is a greater chance of them being able ot help you rather than " my eve is broken, fix it " complaints we hear that are useless and only get you flamed.
I am having many CTD issues atm and i am following the right course of action instead of just complaining on the forums. Yes this is a place to discuss things. But there is an established tool for solving gameplay and other issues with the game.
Just my 2 cents :)

I've participated in other threads about this topic, talked at length in help channel with several of the colored text guys, submitted petitions, waited...waited some more...and then some more...and then I waited some more....
Yet I hear absolutely nothing from anyone. What the hell. |

Edited by: Unaha Closp on 17/07/2005 10:41:53 I'm getting a pretty regular CTD issue with the new patch, nearly everytime I change from windowed to fullscreen (usually just before warping into a fight grrr.) The crash usally happens just after warp in.
9800Pro (Omega 5.6 drivers) Windowed 1280x960 Fullscreen 1600x1200 NCCH-DL Xeon 2.8, XP-Pro SP2, 1Gig ram

The linkage below is a thread I made that contains links to similar threads.. Trying to get them and keep them all in one place so as to bring attention to this CTD issue.

I conccur. I never crashed before the Cold War patch. But now i crash to desktop several times aday. I contacted support and they reccomended me to download the latest drivers. I did so, still crashed. I reinstaled my whole system, and i still crashed. I downloaded the latest complete download of the game from the eve site and reinstalled eve, and i still crash. According to CCP, it must be something with my computer and nothing with the game. Odd, game worked just fine before upgrade. Now seing that more players experience the same problem makes me go hmmmm. My conclusion is that CCP dont know what's going on.

I'd just like to add my support for the originall poster here, i've been playing for 3 years with no ctd issues. Since last patch the game is almost unplayable due to frequent dropps and lagg (2mb broadband connection btw).
CCP have fobbed me off, i've sent in my log file, no response yet.

I have had occasional random CTD's, but couldn't honestly say they were more frequent after the recent patches. Infact I would go so far as to say that EVE is the most stable online game (for me anyway) I've played.
Having said that, an odd occurance last night has got me thinking...
Two of us sharing the same ADSL connection were docked in station chatting to corp mates in busy system. I launched, blank screen followed immediately by CTD. The interesting bit is that the other PC also crashed to the desktop at the exact same time as mine - they hadn't launched but had stayed in station chatting.
My internet connection was still up, and logging immediately put both of us back in station. The rest of our corp mates were still logged in and had registered our disconnect and subsequent reconnect.
I believe there were about 12.1K people on when I relogged.
Thing is, for both PC's to CTD simultaneously I can't see how it could be the game client - which leaves either my ISP or the server farm end. My internet connection was fine after CTD. So momentary ISP fault or server farm connection fault? Would a momentary line drop cause a CTD? I don't know, but I'd be suprised if the game client was that sensitive to network traffic. Also, some of our corp members where using the same ISP as us and yet they weren't kicked out.
I'm thinking more and more server farm end.

Before Cold War patch, I had no problems: my gaming experience was perfect. Since Cold War patch, my client keeps freezing, it doen't crash but suddenly I cannot doin' anything: I can't write in game chat, I can't activate modules and I can't even press the "quit" button....the EVE client just FREEZE. And these problems happen to me for about 20/30 times a day so I'm not able to play. I really don't know what to do, I just hope CCP will solve my problems in the next patch...... |

I was getting system hangs (with screeching sounds) all the time since the new patch.
I installed the latest omega drivers and it has fixed it. Having said that my frame rates have dropped from 100fps, to 60ish.
I am using a ATI Radeon 850 XT Platinum.
