Originally by: Xavier Belt Speaking as someone who only has 650,000 skillpoints and hasn't ventured farther out than 0.1, I find the accounts of Alliance K-O-S behavior all too believable. It happens in every empire-building game out there - it happens all the time in real life - and gamers know it. I don't really have the time or inclination to setup insta-warp bookmarks everywhere, nor can I really afford to lose my ship, nor can I afford to lose even a default-kitted ship to send into 0.0.
I mean, how can I even think about being competitive? I hear people boasting about how they trumped multiple player battleships in their HAC, stuff like that.. it will obviously be a long time before my skills can even get me out of a scrape, let alone for me to acquire the gear to be competitive.
It bothers me that players can be tracked in 0.0 space so easily. It seems to go against the entire spirit of the game. From a game-design perspective, removing it would also make territory claims far more tenuous and hopefully condense territories.
Only thing I could afford to lose regularly in PvP would be a Frigate. And we're talking Punisher, not interceptor. ;)
I would really like 0.0 players to cut out the macho crap. You're out there, you've spent a lot of time playing this game and you're good at it, fine.
Hate to break it to you, but the only thing barring access to 0.0 for you is your perception, lack of in-game experience (I'm not talking about skill points here), and a lack of an adventurous spirit.
Based on your post, I'm going to hazard to guess that your perception of 0.0 is based on what has been posted on the forums and not on personal experience. Your lack of in-game experience shows when you post about needing more "skills" (skillpoints) and "gear" to be competitive. The truth is that survival skills in 0.0 are not some in game commodity that can be bought, nor is it quantifiable like skill points. Survival skills require intelligience, a bit of disciple, patience, a little bit of work for creating those instas and safespots, and interpersonal skills. In addition, your lack of adventurism hinders you from exploring, taking risks, and seeing new possiblities.
Save your frigate, buy a 9K shuttle and find a 0.0 entrance. Hang around the area for a week and become familiar with the surrounding systems and the local residents. Spend a bit of that time creating insta-bookmarks and safespots. Find out who are the baddies and who are the friendlies. If you are unwilling to even do that much...then quite frankly you ought not to be in any space below 0.5
