A great actor and source of some of the best lines in the series. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

God will provide him angel wings that will allow him to go warp 9.9 ... "to boldly go where no man has gone before" He will see what our children will see in decades, centuries.
From Jules Vernes to the last episode of Star Wars passing by all Star Trek episodes, they opened our minds. Eve online is doing the same and will continue.
and one day we will have reached the stars.
Thanks all, Thanks Jimmy.

I had the pleasure of meeting James Doohan many moons ago in the mid '80s. No better person could one meet. Rest in Peace friend. You will always be with us in our hearts.

Great actor. I especially liked him as the older Scotty of the movies, with the "things were better in the old days" attitude.

Doohan's character has had an impact on most, if not all, of the space genre forms of entertainment. It doesn't matter if it is a TV show or a computer game, I think every actor, director or Dev has uttered one of Scotty's quotes at least once in his/her life. He will be sorely missed and continue to have a part of the genre for a long time to come.

Sad sad day indeed, he was part of something special.
The guy will be sadly missed, I wish I had him in engineering in my Apoc - you lot wouldnt stand a chance then.
On a footnote, there is a common misconception of the phrase 'beam me up Scotty', the correct line is actually 'Scotty, beam me up'. So some trekker bod said today on the radio.
No-one like a smart arse tho huh??

Edited by: Siri Danae on 20/07/2005 18:52:10 Scotty was the only one on the ship with any common sense.
I think Doohan stole the show in half of the movies too... from 'There be whales here' to throwing the Klingon through the window in the 'Undiscovered Country'.
RIP ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |

It's a shame, but it had to happen.
Sad as it sounds, but ST:TOS was what got me into sci-fi when I was a kid (that and Asimov). Of course now in my enlightened adulthood I know that ST:DS9 pwns 411, even Star Wars, but still. Star Trek enjoys such cult status precisely because it showed the sci-fi genre could be a hit on TV and made it so accessible to so many people. I'm prepared to overlook the quality for that.

He even has a place here in EVE. Try changing ship as quickly as possible after entering the station and read the popup-message ;).

I'll miss not seeing him as a guest star in any future Star Trek series or films. He lightened up the place just by entering a scene and you always sat there waiting for a typical Scotty comment.

I think we should do something that will keep the memory of him alive in game...
Dev's, GM's, Players? Any Ideas?
Just right now i got an idea to name one of the solar systems with his name like 'Dohan Star' or 'Scotty star' or smthg?
I dont know, maybe its stupid idea, but its idea.... What do you think?

Rest in peace, Scotty.
We'll miss everything that you gave to us.
An idea for the dev's/Gm's is an event/ funeral procession that would take place, marching from one region to another, with as many players as possible coming to pay respect. RP it with the titan? Scotty would have loved the lines of the dreads too. To Err is human, to really screw it up, you need a computer! |
