I've been part of EVE for years now and given the recent E-UNI publicity I felt compelled to propose this idea I've had. CCP like it or not has a reputation of being "disconnected" from its player base. This isn't how I personally feel but this seems to be the general view. From everyone I've spoken to in and out of EVE it seems to be a general consensus that players want to feel like they have an impact in the EVE universe, to be heard. Well I think I have an idea to help everyone feel more a part of EVE.
So I present a simple proposal to not only benefit the players,CSM, and game but also to be able to put the right spin on public relations which seem to have gotten...messy lately.
CCP takes a small (maybe 5% of dev resources) team. This team comes up with a list of 5-ish ideas that they think they can improve the game with such as: new drone module, Pos work, t2 orca, whatever. They let the community vote (lets say under a week to vote since you cant delay development too long, most skill queues require some sort of weekly login and CCP can advertise that the date is fixed. If you don't vote you don't get a say.) every account gets one vote just like CSM and at the end the new dev team works on the elected idea.
Then the team is completely transparent with the community (lets say a blog a month/2 to month to keep devs from having to review professional posts every day) to keep on how and what is happening receiving feedback mainly from the CSM at this point who are involved slightly more than usual to help achieve a balanced product. This follows from inception to execution with CCP reaping some pretty good benefits.
Benefits: Players feel their choice helped mold the EVE legend. Everyone feels they were heard and can be involved. CCP has an absolute lock on PR to the community. EVE heads in the way (at least a little) that the players want. CCP now has a pretty good marketing campaign.
Not Benefits: This could consume too many resources I'm not sure how much the voting etc would take to set up and execute. (Maybe CSM votes if its too much hassle) Due to such a small team it may take awhile to produce a product. EVE players like to abuse things.
Thats all I can think of feel free to provide feedback, or pros/cons, or "go die in a fire" posts.
