Edited by: Ephemeral Ways on 25/07/2005 00:34:56 I'm trying to figure out how to get other minerals than Veldspar out of an asteroid. I scanned the 'roid and it has scordite, dense V, concentrated v and normal veldspar.
How do I get the scordite out instead of teh dense veldspar?
Forgot to mention that I'd tried looking at the Player Guide, the knowledge base and searching the forum. :(
Thanks,
Y.

Veldspar is a type of asteroid. As is scordite. These types of asteroids also have sub-names. Veldspar can be just named "Veldspar", "Dense Veldspar", or "Concentrated Veldspar". Scordite will be named "Scordite", "Condensed Scordite", or "Massive Scordite". Massive Scordite, for instance has a 10% better refining yield than normal Scordite.
You haul the unrefined rock (ore) to a station with a refinery and refine the ore to get refined rock (minerals). Veldspar has the highest yield for tritanium, scordite has the highest yield for pyerite, and plagioclase for mexallon. Scordite generally creates the most money with current market pricing out of the three I mentioned. ----------------------------

This I knew. What was puzzling me was that I scanned an asteroid - called Asteroid (Dense Veldspar) - and the scanner showed that it contained a lot of other stuff as well. Does an asteroid only give up what is in the parenthesis?

The scanner is not used to scan a specific object, but to scan everything in the set distance (15 AU max) and to the set degree from your camera angle. The only means to scan an asteroid are with survey scanners and a simple "show info" on the rock.
As for the scanner... you use it to scan a stargate or asteroid belts from a planet to see if anybody is there, usually. Used a lot by pirates when looking for a victim to ransom. ----------------------------

there is no way to scan an asteroid and see what it contains .....
you probably used a roid scanner, this scans ALL the asteroids in a certain range (standard 15km, named >15km) and tells you how much ore units are in those asteroids. That is all the roid scanner tells you.
If you really want to know what all the asteroid types contain, then check the following: Item Database

I wonder what happens if someone uses a cargo scanner or a ship scanner on a roid.

Ah. that's exactly what I did. So each of those items on the scanner was a differant asteroid. Makes sense.
Thanks for the info.

This might also be worth adding, until you have your refining skills up to 3/4 it might be more profitable to sell the ore as it is and not refine it, scordite will get a nice amount of isk as it is unrefined.
Oh and just to add find a station first that buys scordite at a good price then mine in that area and take your ore to that station.
