At the same time. How is this done? Do you simply make a duplicate EVE folder and run the second EVE from that? I have a pretty nice laptop that I play on and I think it should handle 2 eve's np. P4 3.6 ghz, 2gig ram and geforce 6800 256 ram.
Thanks in advance

Making a second EVE folder may make the second client run faster, but personally I just hit the EVE shortcut twice and it starts up the client from the same folder twice. Runs fine, but only have sound active on one at a time or you can run into some problems.

I tried just hitting the shortcut a second time last night and it just shutdown the first one when I logged into the second one. The login window appeared np and when I typed in my password and hit enter it went into the game as normal, but when I alt tabbed to get to the other version it had been shutdown.

You need to run both in windowed mode...
Plus, some NVIDIA graphics cards have problems running 2 EVE accounts... ------------------------------------------------ Current Hobby other than EVE |

ah ok thanks Bhaal. I will put them in windows mode and try that. If it fails it may be my card. Which case there's not much to be done, though I can change the vid card in this laptop, but I doubt I'll go that far.

You need to have 2 active accounts
Using 2 character slots on the same training account wont work.

I run 3 clients without many problems in normal situations ( i have made 3 coppies of Eve client ). It can get choppy if, for example, you have all 3 in an asteroid Belt, with 5,6,7 other people also.
Your card should be ok, im running a Dell XPS gen2 laptop, P4m 2.13, 1gig RAM and a Gefore GO 6800 Ultra 256mb

My setup: 2 Monitors 2 Graphics Cards (9200 AGP, 9200 PCI) 2 Copies of Eve 2 Accounts
Load up both accounts, one in each window. You need to have the accounts in window mode, and also set to use a specific card.

I have run three at once with only slight slowdawn when jumping or docking on any of the three.
I used to have 2 monitors, but that broke, but I had to set the individual Clients to use the Primary or Secondry connection on the GFx CArd (if there is two).
I also have the Clkient installed 3 times, helps with sceenshots/logs etc having them where I can find them. And I am sure thet it works at least a little better than multiples of the same install.
Just for info, I have a P42.6, 1GB ram, and a ATI X800 Pro 256. - so yours should work jsut fine.

My setup:
Athlon 1.5Ghz 512Mb RAM GeForce 2 Ti Keyboard
I run two accounts almost all the time, and it definatly gets choppy sometimes. I'd only ever run 2 when i am carebearing it up, if i ever have to do anything remotely risky i only run 1 account, cos quite often i get 30-sec lockups on one or both of the clients.

Cool thanks for all the replies. I will try all these ideas tonight when I get home. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Unless you are under attack.

It might help to reduce the colour depth as well. My machine can only run two clients at 16 bit colour since Exodus was released but then my laptop gfx card only has 128MB of RAM. -- (Battle hardened miner)

I turn down the CPU priority one step for both accounts. Noticably more stable and less lag/crap.

2 accounts with one installation works fine, just dont try to use the same account for singularity... I did that mistake once and installing EvE isnt all that fun when it comes down to it.
------------ 20. Is it true all pvpers have carebear alts? Yes, of course. I have so much fun looking up who's alt is who's

I run two clients from one install on one computer with one graphics card and one monitor without real problems. The following glitches happen:
Serious slowdown when docking/jumping. Pre-Cold War, launching and attacking w/ drones on either client lagged the hell out of both. Fixed now. Get confused sometimes when fighting on both accts. Lose track of which convo window I'm in and say innappropriate things to the wrong people. Sounds pops on background client, never bothered disabling it.
Computer setup as follows, notice it doesn't require massive computing power to make this work:
Athlon2400XP w/1GB PC2100 GeforceFX 5600/128MB

Pre Cold War it was all fine and dandy here. Now I get BSODs about 20 minutes into running two clients :/ Otherwise it's smooth and lag-free.

- Windowed mode only. - Two seperate copies. **important overlooked step** - Sound 100% off in the second copy. Two programs running the same audio code at once is sure to cause direct-x crashes. Just try running 2-3 Avi files at once for an example of this within 3-5 minutes. - Run a memory manager. Windows leaks memory, espeically when multiple instances of the same program are running. It leakes it like a sieve that's been run over by a roto-tiller. do a google search for "analogx" and hunt around on their site for an app called "MaxMem". It solves half of all crashes. - USB mice and keyboards. Programs act wonky when they are using the older hardware interfaces. I've yet to have a problem with USB devices, though. - A second monitor. Heh - not REALLY necessarry, but a god-send nonetheless.

I can run 3 accounts fine, p4 2ghz 1gig ram radeon 9600, just turn off the sound, and ctrl+alt+shift+e/t , click sun is clouded (or something) and the other one in the option and it runs fine.

Edited by: Sybylle on 26/07/2005 08:01:49 I have recently encountered loads of issues when renning 2 accounts, on 2 copies of the game (each one on a separate drive). Lag was horrible...crash regular...I've been working with this setup before (for 1.5 year) but it doesn't work anymore.
Yesterday I tried to run twice the same client...All lag gone...Only one crach of an account in 5 hours...Weird O¶. But it works fine now. So if you have issues afterwards, try this ^^
Edit : BTW, I got an Athlon XP 2200+, 512 Mb of Ram, a GeForce 4 Ti4200 128Mb (but it also works on the IGP, a GeForce 2 Mx, with shared memory). (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

Thanks all! Shifted to window mode and turned the sound off in the second window and no problems. Had to adjust the screen res down abit because my laptop has a 17" widescreen and the max screen res put the bottom of eve off the screen. Only a minor drop was required. So all still good. Have to hide the windows menu bar to free up that last little bit of screen territory. But since I alt-tab to go between eve clients it's np.
Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions.
ps: didn't play both accounts for any great ammount of time last night so don't know the stability yet. But so far so good.

pfft, so much uneccesary FUD in this thread. Just hit the shortcut twice. You'll get two clients. Run them windowed so you can see what is going on. Works fine on every system I've tried, both ATI and NVidea. If it doesn't work, try a more powerful machine. (I've run 2 clients, just, on a Dell P4 2.0Ghz laptop with 440MX Go 64MB so you should be fine on anything up to date).
You will see a significant performance boost if you switch the sound off, but you'll only really notice when there's constant sound on both clients (like mining lasers for example).
