I'm not naming names, nor am I whining...
People say this is only a game, well... I use to as well.
Today, a friend of mine who has joined a merc corp got a contract on my head. He showed up, talked all good... I was a little sus and was going to fly my alt in a nearby system just to make sure people were not waiting for me (god I should have) but I thought nah, he would never do something like that.
So i'm talking to him about my new setup (another big mistake, they now know how i'm fitted) when he warps to my safe spot, which was not really a safespot, 100,000k from a gate, easy to get on a scanner.
So then i'm jammed, I see 3 people enter local and I was like god no. Eventually i'm poped.
Now, this is the intresting part, when I kill people, I'm always like pff, it's a game, get over it... Well this was a mate, who used his friendship to get me in game, I don't care about losing isk, I have plenty, it was the fact that a mate, the longest one I've had in eve (over a year) tricked me into this. Really hurt, so I now see what people are saying when there all ****ty at me when I kill them.
It's hard for EvE to just be a game. The whole game is built around trust IMO.
Thought i'd share anyway, i'd like to see the comments.

Im sure gonna be flamed for this, but that guy is very very very silly imo!
I have been tricked before by people i chat with in local, but that was not near this ''1 year friendship''.
Of what i know, then Eve is a very team (and therefore also trust) based game, so when you cant even rely on your old friends, then there is just something wrong :/
Ofcourse - now you wasnt on the same side anymore, but you didnt know (that you had a contract on you), and i just dont get how he could do that
Well.. Flame away, wont take my personal opinions away. ----------

You can be my friend, as I am always nice. I only bite back when bitten. Anyway, sorry to hear about that nasty friend of yours. It does hurt when ppl breach your trust. Again, sorry.

That sucks, I can see how you'd be rather upset at that happening, however when there's no real consequences if someone betrays your trust and friendship then (I.E. In an online game like EVE) people are more inclined to do it I guess. __________________

Don't let it get ya down. In meat space, I was CEO of a small company - rose up through the ranks to get there, was the rain maker. Took them through some tough times.
First chance the CFO had he came up with a lamebrained excuse to rally the directors behind him, oust me, and take over as Chairman.
Why? Thats how business works, at least for some folks. You get a thicker skin, you watch yourself.
But you don't lose the ability to trust people. That takes the life out of life...whether it be in a game, business, or the local rotary club.
Fraternity, above all else - its what makes life wonderful. Just gotta remember that when it goes bad, thats just one or a couple people in the world - and there are billions of us. Mark them off, move on to a better class of people.

Trust your comrades. There's a difference between comrade and friend, that's why the two words exist.

I knew you would understand me selling those pictures of you in the pink dress Lod... It's just a game.
tbh, the friends I have in Merc or pirate corps I would expect to blow me up at any time. I wouldn't hold it against them, it's all part of the game. As long as they don't start smacktalking or being a d*** about it afterwards.
I'm pretty sure they would feel the same way when I get my revenge on them as well. Thats what I would call a friend.

Paying? I didnt pay nor getting paid to be friends... Being friends means trust, honour and friendship, errr... giving help when help is needed not backstabbing. Backstabbers are basically ppl who have no guts to do it upfront, IMHO. ----------------------------------- Eve is all about Darwinism: 1. Only the fittest survives. 2. Only the paranoid survives. 3. Very harsh way to get podded Infused, i can see your reasoning with the way people dont like it when you pod them but most of the time, they are just another character within that corp, nothing personal right? Its just business?
Eve is a game that requires teamwork and trust, but it just begs the question where do u draw the line with friendship and trust within the game? Quite simply, u can never be too sure, i am lucky in the fact that i have never experienced a backstabbling like that, but im sure one day it will come back to bite me in the butt. IMO nowt you could have done about it...
