According to nVidia there will be a minor performance cost if anything on my dated GTX 580... so roll it out =)
So lets hear it, are we ready to ditch Windows XP support?
I don't know... only CCP can give us the feedback on how many people are sitting on XP boxes... but how about our Forum trolls, how many of you are still using XP?

DirectX has a "all or nothing" approach to introduce new features. If you like to use tessellation you need DX11. Moving an engine from DX9 to 11 is not trivial, thats why almost no game ships with two renderers - they have to decide what they want to support to safe maintenance costs. Even bleeding edge games which sell because of their graphics have no DX11 since they do not want to exclude players (e.g mechwarrior online). Crysis can do that since its all about graphics... eve not so much.
if CCP would move eve to DX11 today it would make it unplayable for a big part of the players.

EVE is shinier than most other games i play. I got no issues. The game mechanics and combat style is much more important than "OOOOO SHINEY!!!!" to me. Though shiney is nice too....

BTW in this release there is 2 new files in client \Bin folder: "_trinity_dx9_deploy.dll" and "_trinity_dx11_deploy.dll"

Surprisingly i have enough cash once in every blue moon to toss a bit on a new piece of **** i mean erm.... hardware to keep my computer alive! 
Edit: Make Windows 7 (not 8) cheap and make building a new computer cheap and i have no issue with DX11

Admit it, your car insurance isn't 'REALLY' more important...........it's just you're less likely to get arrested for driving an out of date gaming rig.........although if the forum police had that kind of power I'm sure they'd abuse it  |

As a Windows 7 user myself, I concur, bring on the Tessels. I don't see why CCP couldn't have a DX toggle like a lot of other games. Make DX9 default with a box to select DX11 that unlocks Tessellation options. Would cater to both XP users, and Win7. |

So I can find copies of Home Basic windows 7 for around $80 Aussie. This would probably be slightly cheaper in the US, so really there is no excuse to not be able to upgrade. |

Its always surprising to me how devoted some people are to xp. While vista was a flop 7 is spectacular and its been around what, ~4 years now?
Do people just not feel the need to upgrade?
At what point do the developers have to say "Enough is enough! We have to update to some of the newer tech"? If for no other reason than to ensure their game doesent fall behind the capabilities of new games coming to market. |
