I was confused at first when I got Eve, as its Eve Online: The Second Genesis... What happened to the first Genesis?

i'll intertain the idea of a possible eve 2 so long as it means i can land on a planet, get out of my ship and eat an alien squirrel/apple thing for my virtual breakfast.
until then the idea of eve 2 is dumb because why make a new game when they have so much they could add to the current one?
mmmm...squirrel....

What you mean you missed it......oh well not going to tell you what happened.
Any way EVE 2 might end up being a cover name or the new name they give it with some sort of massive upgrade ----------- I would have a sig but it might break a arm, leg or even worse a rule. |

You don't read the bible, do ya? Look it up, Book of Genesis. In this context I don't think that its a coincidence that this game is called EVE.
@topic: Bringing out 2nd parts of an MMORPG is mostly a PR and marketing "gag" to "refresh" the player base, but basically nothing that can't be done with a content patch. Continuous improvement is way better in this case, and EVE changed A LOT in the last 2 years, more than some games do in 3 parts of their existence *cough* lara *cough*.

If there ever comes a successor to EVE, it would be utter cool if you could somehow implement some of what you gained in your previous "life" in eve; maybe you could play as your main chars child or something and get some of his experience from the beginning...
I know, its a game, but for most of us EVE has already became a way of life, and it would be kinda waste if all the invested time(not to mention the money) goes down for nothing when (if) the server finally closes.
Or maybe, just upgrade eve constantly, ccp has done a great job the last years.

Quote: It wouldn't make much sense from CCP's point of view to wipe the slate clean and start from scratch.
I wonder if that's true. EVE has been implemented using a spin-off of Python, hacked to provide continuations. That interpreter is no longer actively developed by anyone. Perhaps CCP has the means to support their own language going forward, but you have to wonder if they are worried about this...

Edited by: Dirge Lamentor on 03/08/2005 12:42:16 Eve is so nearly the perfect game...
the only thing that could make it better would be the implementaion of first person avatar. SO you could actually walk around inside your ships. You could explore countless moons in a ground rover or get into a shoot out in a seedy smugglers station.
I swear...i would never leave the house if they ever implement this... maybe its a good idea that they dont! :D

Heh! You mean you could also organise your own freighter holds, do inventory etc... ;) Oooo, Haulage Sim. I'd quite enjoy overseeing the cargo loadup of my own freighter in first person. Errr, did I just say that?!!

Edited by: Reiisha on 03/08/2005 22:28:02 EVE needs a complete graphical overhaul. Bad.
1: Planets are still not in proportion, also, theyre simple polygon balls with a 'glow' sprite to emulate an atmospheric effect. Some have a simple shader for lightning - but that lightning encompasses half the planet! When Kali comes and planetary flight is possible, i hope that planets will have had a HUGE graphical overhaul. So do suns, but that's another matter. If i'm 200k km away from a star i should be hot and radiated, not cooled down and looking at a flashlight.
2: Almost all textures need an overhaul. Not in design, but in sharpness and resolution for those high-powered PC's. EVE's graphics needs to be more customizable. I still hate to see the 4-pixel windows on a thorax or mega despite the high texture resolution.
3: In terms of models, EVE is going in the right way with the newer ship models. The old ones, though, are sometimes painfully simple. A higher detail LOD might be welcome.
4: Asteroid belts. They need a huge overhaul. They were better in Medusa, when they were more than 150km long and ordered in a huge cube instead of the half-circle of most belts. Belts were really 'asteroid belts', not the puddle of little pebbles thrown together that they are now. Look in the game Nexus for an example of how roid belts should look. This of course creates more resources to be picked, but that's hardly a con - people will have more incentive to stay in the same place (or region), and it will promote regional markets even more, instead of the nomadic existance that msot corps endure atm. Also, newbies will have ample opportunity to mine other stuff than 'volume: 1' veld roids.
5a: Background nebulas don't exist! Sometimes the painful square texture is visible through a bug, and that takes away a lot of believability to the game. Also, when people wark distances of 200+ au, they should at least see their perspective on the nebula change. Right now, the EVE background is the same as a skybox in Unreal 1, not moving respectively to the camera. Make it more like in Half-Life 2, where the skybox moves with the camera, or simply make the nebulas celestial objects.
5b: You jump from one system to the next and BAM, an entirely new nebula. What's more, you can't see the other one in the back ground! Black holes don't even make their usually visible whirlpools, and the EVE gate is a simple warp effect. The background in EVE should be more proportioned to what's actually beside the system you're in, and nearby stars should shine more than far away ones. Right now, it looks like every star in the sky is as far awa from you as the other one, all of them shine exactly as bright, and also, even though there is no air to distort the star's light or make them twinkle, they still twinkle. Why is that?
Simple make the EVE systems a visible 'milky way' across most of the systems, and generate the skyboxes anew with this data (including any planetary nebulas, black hole distortions and colors/magnitudes of the stars nearby).
I can write down other stuff, but that would be too much. The graphics and environments need an overhaul badly, even now.
Is there a point to this post?
Yes.
EVE graphics are the only thing that need an overhaul, and we don't need an EVE 2 for that.

We're not playing Eve 2?
Seems we should be based on what the OLD veterans say about the game "not being what it used to be". |

I believe that would be code for "buy some stock so we can hire a bigger development team" - if not for the fact that CCP is a privately held corporation last time I checked.
Why read between the lines when you can just make stuff up conjure plausability at random.

Nope, we don't need new content, we don't need a better implementation of the storyline, we don't need to reduce code based lag, we don't need to improve on pvp balance - Reiisha figured it out! We need better Grafics for a game that is already rated top in graphics (and rightly so) among all mmorpgs [/sarcasm off]. Some people

All the things you mentioned are improvements that come automatically to this sort of game, none of them need an overhaul either. Also, PvP balance has been better than ever.
The graphics were top rated in 2003. That's 2 years ago... The current graphics are beginnign to show their age when compared to the newer games.

Seriously, before anyone ever considers EVE 2, try to get EVE 0 into the kind of shape that would warrant the label "operational".
Right now, EVE 2 is a saracstic inside joke among veterans tired of 360 degrees of outstanding bug fixes.
