Of late I hear people mention an "eve-2"...
"If we get an eve-2..."
"Perhaps when eve-2 comes out..."
etc etc I'd not paid it any attention at first, as i thought it went against the core ideas that ccp has always implemented with eve... Eve has so many career paths now, that it would take years upon years to train for them all.. with more to be added i'm sure... CCP has talked about tech levels all the way up to 5... The Cold war just hit... will there be a hot war? ;) What about slavery? The Jovians? Terran Space? Eve 2 would split the community & if they don't shard the server to keep people together then why would they spinoff a sequel when there's nothing wrong with the original? Has there been some press release I've missed, or are these just people speculating?

Its about damn time they open Jove space. (unless its only ment to be accessible with jumpdrives)
I remember sitting on the tube on my way home after first buying EVE, reading the manual. I remember thinking "awww these Jove people sounds cool, im gonna be Jove".
I had to settle with the 2nd best.

You mean 3rd best, since Caldari are the most dominant race in EvE.

As I understand EVE will be going for a long long time (several years of time). So if people are waiting for EVE 2 they are the most patient people you'll ever meet.

Caldari only has the numbers because they have the 'coolest' empire mini-description in character making menu, and caldari guys look the most 'normal' of all the empires (well, at least most of them do). Maybe this is a Euro vs America thing but if I saw someone who looked like the average gallente/minnie/amarr avatar I would probably hurl.
Anyway, there would be no point in having an 'eve 2' as described by the OP as it does not fit into CCP's model for making content. The only reason CCP might want to is in like 5 years or so, when they want to *totally* overhaul the graphics engine, UI, ship balance, etc. to bring it up to date. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

It wouldn't make much sense from CCP's point of view to wipe the slate clean and start from scratch. After all they would like to keep their existing playerbase whilst attracting new players to the game and I don't think too many existing Eve players would be happy having to start the game from scratch again with Mining Level I ;)
The sensible option is to keep building upon the foundations of Eve (which it appears is what the Devs are doing) until they get to a point where the game engine is unworkable or is ready to be put out to pasture in favour of something totally new and original.

Why? CCP are only now gradually introducing unique elements to existing systems. Jove space will be much as it was back in beta. Empty, unpopulated and indistinguishable from all the other systems we currently travel through.
I don't understand why people keep asking for Jove space to opened as if doing so will somehow make everything wonderful. It won't. There are plenty of empty systems currently accessible so if you want the 'Jove space' experience just head away from the population centres and find en empty system to sit in. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Eve is constantly evolving product. There is no need for an Eve 2. If it helps, think of Eve - Cold War as Eve 2. In the end, it's just a name.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

That is largely accurate, with only one issue. The foundations of the game can't be changed and I'm sure there's probably one or two root (note, note core) elements that the Devs wouldn't mind changing. Of course due to the domino effect it would have they can't, other than that though, you're right.

You can only add new features to a certain extent because there are limits in the base program code. Some things just cant be changed because it was never expected to happen in the first way when eve 1.0 was coded .. so at some point in time a complete recoding of the game would be necessary ( which then basically would be eve 2 ) in order to get better performance, less server load, state of the art graphics and new features.
I¦m quite sure though that eve will run for another 3 years, at least !

Why? Because Jovians are apart of the EVE universe. Because they are even mentioned it the manual. Because people expects it? Jove agents, Jove npc`s. Jove guns.
Whats the point of having a part of space that cant be reached?
Really im curious.

Numerous, not dominant.
Rats (ie Caldari) are numerous. Humans (Amarr) are dominant.

i would think eve 2 if it happened would be totally different think MOO3 (though 10000% times better) a RTS empire building - strategic game based upon the eve universe. Instead of flying around you would control a wannabe empire.

Time to squash some rumors. EVE 2 isn't even on the drawing board that I am aware of. Some discussion, but no plans for the immediate future. EVE itself has a long way to go before the content is exhausted, so I wouldn't put any hopes on E2 appearing within the next 5-7 years.
BUT, things can always change.....

I challenge you guys to prove it.
On the other hand, who knows what lies on the other side of Jovian space. ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |

Well, if this is the case then Eve has been badly coded. I know when I build software I built it in such a way that any component can be recoded and replaced.
