"Drones for Dummies" 1) Never agro a spawn with your drones out, ever. 2) Wait for the ENTIRE spawn to target (yellow flashing boxes) and have lock (solid red boxes) before releasing. 3) On wave missions, scoop on the last ship in a wave, before the next wave spawns. 4) Sic your drones on one target at a time, don't let them run wild on multiple targets. 5) Don't let your drones do all your damage, put some guns on your ship. 6) Keep your drones close, scooping them for 5 seconds will repair shield damage and reset the agro to you.
Drones aren't broken, your tactics are.
Thats not true , i already aggroed the first wave and shot a frig already from a total of 3 frigs and 20 crusiers (infernos ,mortifers ,nullifiers,etc..) the frigs were 5 km range from me and i was already using my T2 small guns on them while tanking the 20 cruisers , i lanched my drones at that moment and i foudn out that the dmg i was receving is startign to lessen sicne i saw that the morftifers and infernos have switched to my droens and by the tiem the last frig died i lost 7 out of 8 . Edited by: Ferret on 07/08/2005 13:14:41 OK I have done some extensive testing on this as I used to run a tank/heal setup:
Non û Deadspace missions:
If one character warps in and attacks all ships doing damage to them all and gets red lock (them firing at him). Another BS can then warp in (not even in the same gang), always stay further away from the NPCs and not even target them, but sooner or later the NPCs will attack him instead. Just to repeat he was not even targeting them, was flying away from them, they all where red locked before, he was not targeting the other character or healing. The NPCs will continue to switch every now and again. I repeatd this est many times.
They seems to switch randomly and can sometimes spend over 60secs not firing at anyone, while you blast them to pieces. They also all like to switch together, so you can take 4 ships to structure and watch them all suddenly attack your friends that hasnÆt even look at themā
In wave situations then sometimes you get a switching wave and sometimes not.
Drones also have the same effect as other characters and you can see a whole wave retarget just to attack a single droneā

Some pretty good answers and some pretty bad answers that where not thought out.
What Haceldema said though I feel it pretty acurate to my experiance. However I have also experiance launching drones when I I had a bunch or webbers loacked and shotting me and once the drones out the Webbers switch to the Drones. This was the only case where Haceldema situation didn't hold true for the most part. And the webbers I belive where angle but I'm not positive.
And anouther note as to NPC changing targets to anouther player. A corpmate and I have teamed up to do a few missions since patch. We are both set up to take out the NPC at long range. Often this range is out of the NPC optimal firing range so I have seen them all go from shotting me to the blinking yellow square. At about this time is when they start targeting my Corpmate. My ship is generally a little faster so if I'm not watch my corp mate will get closer to the NPC's and they will start attaking him since he is at closer range. Thats my 2 cents as to the changing Argo's. They like to go for the target that is closest to there optimal range now, from what it appears.

Edited by: MacMillan on 09/08/2005 18:59:53 Well I got an answer. Funnily enough from a GM called NO VALUE. Apt name.
Basically
Players should be aware that NPC's can switch targets.
Well that was helpful.
I know this will probably get locked but come on. This wasnt in the patch notes even though the new quality chap said no more stealth changes.

Edited by: MacMillan on 09/08/2005 20:28:08 To add i have now been told by the same GM
"Unfortunately I will not be able to work on this case any further. If you want to discuss this any further I suggest you do it on the forums."
I am also told its not new at all
So anything anyone wants to add or are we doomed to never know?

Of course it also depends on the mission too. I don't seem to see aggro switching off the mission-taker in The Blockade for instance.
It seems to me that some rat types are more prone to switching targets as well. Serpentis seem to do it infrequently but Angels and Mercenaries more so. That's probably just randomness and my faulty perceptions though.

Accoring to some testing i did extensivly on this issue i reached the following conclusion :
-Rats do switch aggro either to ganag memebers or drones. -Once the rat has started moving towards the person who has started the aggro to a main group they are still in the swtiching phase , meaning i am 80 km away , cruisers are moving towards me and my gang m8 , i am already shooting the frigs with cruise missiles so far i havet shot any cruiser but they are already shooting me , if my corp m8 shoots them at this phase they will switch aggro to him or to my drones , who ever shoots the npcs while they are charging will get the aggro instead.
